Default First time wearing makeup

I've gotta tell you that makeup of any sort never interested me, and I've never really even experimented with it, never gone anywhere with any makeup on. I'll be 16 in a few weeks and by now you all know I'm a bigger girl.

Yesterday was different, as the small band I've formed with friends played for a dance at our church's teen group and I realized from looking at pictures of other female singers that I needed some bright red lipstick to complete my look I was trying for, which is late 50's-early 60's vintage. So I wore it, and everything was good.

After the dance my girlfriend's mom who is an esthetician told me that I need to take it up a few notches, to include subtle eyeliner, shadow, and to do something to make my eyebrows more visible since I have light brown/dirty blonde hair and my brows don't stand out much.

What do you guys think? I know many, maybe most girls start wearing makeup at around my age, but I'm not gonna wear it every day. I did put on the red lipstick again this morning, because I'm kinda dressed up for Valentines day. But I think I wanna limit it to special occasions like when I'm performing, or maybe on a date.

If you really want to wear make-up I recommend a type consultation with a beautician / visagist.
she can give you tips to emphasize your individual type.

I would say take it slow on everyday occasions as you seem to be more comfortable without it. It is fine to be natural. As for the days you are performing I do think it is important to wear make-up to enhance your features under the lights on the stage. If you don't your face will be washed out. So maybe have your girlfriend mom do your make-up before one of the shows you are performing at and see what you think.

I def don't wanna overdo it for everyday, and likely won't be wearing makeup to school except on rare occasions.

I've got a new question......... was asked to join the church choir which is mostly women, and mostly old enough to be my mom or grandma. I accepted, and I know they have a dress code which I'm gonna follow, dark bottoms and white tops.

Nearly all of these women are wearing makeup, some more than others, but it's pretty obvious that they are making an effort to look a little better since everyone can see them.

Now I wouldn't consider doing the level of makeup my friend's mom suggested that I wear for performing on stage at dances, but is a subtle lipstick (NOT bright or bold) and a little something on my eyebrows going too far at age 15 in church? This is all so new to me, and I don't see girls wearing makeup in the congregation, if they are, it's not obvious.

Some subtle makeup would be appropriate i would think. Maybe it might be a good idea to ask the choir director and what she thinks?

Thanks, Kara. I did ask her and she told me to do whatever I'm comfortable with, so I came back to her with the question what did she think would look nice for me in the choir, without taking it to extremes? She thinks that a subtle lipstick, maybe something simple on my cheeks, and light eye makeup would be all I need.

I told her I'd never worn makeup until a week ago and she told me to just relax and get confident about putting it on, and suggested that maybe my friend's mom would be the perfect person to have teach me a few things about using it. I also told her that I'd been advised when performing on stage with my band that I needed a lot more makeup and a somewhat stronger look than I would ordinarily want to wear anywhere else so that people further away from the stage could see me clearly.

She said that simple jewelery can also add a nice touch, and I told her that I often wear chunky stuff that's either plain or colorful.

Eventually I'll get it all figured out.
