Exclamation WARNING: The Blue Whale Challenge is back!

ATTENTION EVERYONE

You may have heard of the Blue Whale challenge from a few years ago. For those not familiar, the challenge gets you to do various self-harming activities over the course of 30-50 days. On the last day, the challenge tells you to commit suicide.

PLEASE BE CAUTIOUS ON SOCIAL MEDIA

If you see anyone on social media with this or something very similar as their avatar, PLEASE BLOCK THEM. If anyone with that avatar messages you, DO NOT ANSWER THEM. BLOCK THEM AND REPORT THEM! If you accept the challenge, they tell you to self harm and send pictures. If you do not comply, they threaten to dox you (get a hold of yours and your family's personal information and spread it).

More info can be found here.

Stay safe everyone,

SouthernDude

Thankfully I've never heard about this until now, but thanks for the warning! I'll keep a lookout.

I see myself as a diplomat. Got a problem with that, asshole? Huh??

From what I've read, my understanding is they look for vulnerable people, groom them, and get malware on their computer. Then if the person doesn't do what they want, they threaten to do things to them or their family. Again, these are vulnerable people in the first place; probably not ones who have strong connections to their parents.

The good news is, there are some reports this whole thing is a hoax and they can't find anyone who actually took these actions and committed suicide.

From Wikipedia:

Quote:
The origin of the name "Blue Whale" is uncertain. Some reports say that it comes from a song by the Russian rock band Lumen. Its opening lines are "Why scream / When no one hears / What we're talking about?" and it features a "huge blue whale" that "can't break through the net."[11] Others believe it to be a reference to beaching, where whales become stranded on beaches and die.[6]

I had just assumed that a blue whale would be the biggest thing in the ocean, or the “biggest thing” (suicide) that a sicko could convince someone else to do, and that’s where the name came from

Either way, it’s disgusting

I can't believe that people would try and talk people into suicide let alone take pictures also, so appalling.
