Default Žorn

No, not porn, žorn! Or for you "th believers," thorn.

It's an old English letter žat was used for že "th" sound like in že words wiž, žing, and žought. I've been very interested by ž lately because I žink že "th" combination is fairly stupid. Also, I've been on a hating spree of že French language and žis gives me anožer žing to hate že French about. I genuinely žink žat ž should make a return into že English language.

PROS:

- Simple design. Not very easily confused wiž ožer letters, maybe P and lowercase b, but at least it's better žan š

- Easy to implement. Would not be difficult at all to return into že English language. How hard is it to learn just one more letter of že alphabet? And žere are proposals to change its name to "že" so it doesn't look like porn anymore and rhyme wiž Z so it fits perfectly at že end of že alphabet

- Still exists in some languages. Žis means žat it's on certain keyboards, so it would not, and is not currently, a problem at all to type

CONS:

- Kinda looks like porn. As I said, žere's a proposal to change it to "že," so it's fixable

So, what do y'all žink? Do you support a return of že žorn? Why or why not? Will you start using žorn like me?

Žanks for coming to my rant, have a good day.

It still does in a way get used now, there are plenty of "ye olde" shops. Where the "ye" should actually be "že", but because of printing press for ease the y was used as a substitute because of the similar appearance, especially when at the time was commonly also written as yͤ

one of the few good things of english that it has the most basic latin characters, adding that would create more confusion and it's kind of confusing because looks like a b for me.

If you're on a Mac, go to System Preferences -> Keyboard -> Input Source -> click že plus and select English - ABC - Extended, and you can use Option + T to type a žorn

If you're on a Windows, press Alt + 0222 for an uppercase Žorn and Alt + 0254 for a lowercase žorn

If you're on an iPhone or Android, žere are keyboard apps žat allow you to have different characters, such as že žorn.

šere is, and it's šis character. However, English has long ignored differences voiced and unvoiced consonants, so it'd be sorta useless to bring back š (pronounced "eth").

I would like to see še return of žorn, but alongside its voiced counterpart, eth (š). Đen we could have še full range of old English "th" sound letters.

I argue šat we don't bring back š because of its similarity to "d." Also, English has long ignored differences between voiced and unvoiced sounds. Šis is why I only proposed to bring back žorn, not š.

But, it could aid in understanding še pronunciation of some words, so I'm not 100% sure where I stand on še return of š, but I am certainly for še return of žorn.

All this looks very Icelandic.

(And this would present a problem for the word "with", which is pronounced with thorn in some dialects, and eth in others).
