Symptom: Unfounded fears of contracting a dreadful illness

But it did get to the extent that i didn't leave the house for a year because of these things. Except to go to psychiatry appointments, doctor appointments and court cases(all of which would lead to major panic attacks. and constant trips to the bathroom in fear of catching some kind of disease from the chairs i had to sit on) I also remember i'd write down everything i'd eat at the time it was eaten and wait hours until i felt that it was "safe" to assume i wasn't going to die, so i wouldn't let myself leave the house after eating) i also had my "safe" foods, potatoes, bread and water. except after a while i stopped trusting bread because i was concerned that there may be something wrong with the crusts and i had a few episodes were i'd be crying because my potato didn't taste "right". Robert, you have enough going on without the added complication of OCD!!
These check list thingies are always a bad idea, because they are so global that just about everyone who takes them has all or most of the symptoms on the checklist! it's like 'Aristotle was a man, I am a man, therefore I am Aristotle'. The key symptom, the most important thing about TRUE OCD is psychosis. People with OCD really believe that they MUST engage in whatever thought (obsession) or behavior (complulsion) they believe. It is real torture for them, they cannot stop themselves. Please, please, tell me this doesn't pertain to you. Or anyone else in this thread. |
