Of all the forums I've ever been part of, this is by far the easiest to use.

Whilst a more modern UI might be nice, it’s simply not necessary. What we have right now works as it needs to, and if I’m not mistaken back in the early days of VT the then-administrators paid for a lifetime licence for this version of vbulletin.

Excellent!

There is nothing better than this version of VBB (3.x) -- Verson 4 is disgusting UNLESS YOU RE-WRITE EVERYTHING!! (One site I am on did that an that one looks 99% the same as it did on VB3.x but its slower)

Newer IS NOT BETTER -- Usually its over bloated garbage that doesnt look or run as good!

I agree with you all. This forum works well. What is new is not necessarily worth the investment, if not worse than before.

I am personally fine with it and the retro-themed design.

HOWEVER

This is not how 99% of teenagers reason.

In 2020, teenagers, especially those who are younger than me, and us the "older" teenagers, and you the old respected members, think differently.

They are used to smartphones and touchscreens. They often if not mostly use their smartphones. They download apps all the time, which are updated several times per month. All the social networks have "cool" modern designs, stylish interfaces, easy to use comments systems and instant messaging, with smileys, GIFs, embedded videos and previews of links... They are cool to use and talk about with your friends. A 2000s forum... not much.

Now, new members aged 13 are younger than the interface. For them, it is really antiquated. A number of teens will be put off by the design and features. We don't realise, but it is more or less than if we used Windows 95, 98 or Windows Millenium, depending on your age.

This is archeology !

Forums will never compete again with social networks, but staying stuck in the past will not help to fight the trend and attract many new members

Yes, I know, updating the forum technically would be a huge and lengthy task, perhaps costly too. I totally understand the reasoning. And this is not my decision.

But this is my opinion. It is needed if you want the forum to last many years, otherwise it is a dead end.

For example, you cannot even embed a Youtube video without knowing and typing the exact code to embed it (there is no shortcut and no button in the menu). On other forums, you paste the link, you automatically get the embedded video.

when you turn 65 this will be a Forum of teen-bots communicating with 8yo-14yo human teens, because then kids of the future will hit puberty at 7/8 and with 14 they'll be bioglogical aged 17/18. And retro style will be a huge thing, whereas TicToc, Insta etc are sites just for grandparents. but you'll only able to join the new subforums branded as FTET (For the elderly teens and those who never grew up)
