Hi what do you guys think about torrents I personally use them but only for software that is to expensive for my liking

I want to say that all torrents are not bad. Some things people use them for are (illegal downloads and such). But the core idea behind torrents is not bad at all.

I use torrents extensively for programs that are ridiculously priced (I.e. Photoshop). But for the most part I use them for downloading mods and trainers for my PC games.

If i like them i go out and buy the dvd and the CDs.

I use it for TV shows I can't get here, and the odd program. I download most of my Linux distros through torrents.

I think that it is a great option for accessing the total download speed available to you.

I use them, and like them. I think its a very individual preference though, I know some people that can't stand them, and others swear by them.

My download speeds are fine, but I hate torrents. It's just as easy for me to find a direct download anyway.

I use torrents to sample some music from an album. If i like it i buy it on itunes, if not, i delete it.

Torrents are amazing. They are economical for legitimate downloads.

For example, a small company wants to release a program for free, but can't pay for the bandwidth to host this file.

Torrents save bandwidth for hosts and are just as fast with enough seeds. All of my copies of Ubuntu roll off of Transmission when I need them.

A good medium, like World Of Warcraft uses bittorrent technology, some movie producers distribute their movies through sites like legaltorrents, which is full of free/opensource software and stuff.

But it does have a darkside, the whole illegal side with music and movies and stuff.

The actual idea behind torrents isn't bad at all. But for the common person who is not very savvy when it comes to networking, ports, connections, etc. will be very lost and confused about download speeds. I use them a lot, not gonna lie. It helps get me things that I need and when I need them. Torrents themselves can be used for good or bad, but it's mostly for piracy.
