With nearly half of smart phone sales going to the iPhone and so many more people buying iPad and iPod than any other companies tablet or music device and the spike from 10 million MacBook air purchases to 410 million in quarter 1 are we entering the post-pc era

No. You forget that PCs dominate the business world, and that's where a majority of computers end up. It'll be a while before we see a tablet device with the same capabilities as a full desktop.

Anyway. I don't know why people are so willing to buy Apple products. They buy every useless and expensive pieces of crap hardware that they obviously won't need or do not use it for more than few things.
I have to admit that Apple did a great job during the early days of household computers. But now? wtf people!
Yes, there are products that are more aesthetically pleasing, better performing and tenfold cheaper than Apple crap.

Yeah some are more expensive but I have had a Dell laptop and hp laptop and now a MacBook pro and MacBook pro is a lot better. Also apples iPad 2 is rated better then the motorola xoom on consumer reports and it's cheaper than the xoom. Pcs are better for business but it seems like apple is starting to work more on business capability. I have an iPad 2 and it is fun and useful you can type word documents power points make music video editing you can print from it surf the web faster than a desktop pc. Email Skype and face time plus iPad has over 65,000 apps for iPad alone.

I've heard this a couple times already, but I've yet to really figure out what makes people think so - I've used both OSX and Win-based software for drawing, and I can't say I was impressed by the Mac side of things (it is "just the same house with a different paint", so to say).
What did you enjoy on the Mac platform that was not so good on the Windows side? I'm interested, because I may buy a new computer with my next summer job, and that would definitely be a graphic arts computer ;).

In journalistic writing our class uses a Mac lab. I do favor the media software. I would not purchase a Mac though as I'm not familiar with its GUI and anything Apple branded is extremely inflated price wise. My current computer can run a Mac OS X virtual machine so it is basically 2 computers in one for $1400 vs 2000+ for a decent Mac.

Macs are a lot better for graphic design first at colleges if you are in some art and/or design class they recommend a Mac. Also macs are better with larger files, they are it's easier to rename files on mac, the best software is on macs and "graphics" software macs handle type better, it's easier to find graphic specific tech support with a Mac, and macs produce cleaner post script than windows do. Macs also don't get viruses or not nearly as many
When I asked the question I also wasn't just asking iPad but also MacBook pro and MacBook and just Mac desktops and phones in 2010 apple sold about 110 million MacBook airs per quarter since the start of 2011 they have already sold 560 million that is quite a spike. I also find it amazing when people say droids are better because they sell more of them then iPhones but really droid has like 6 decent companies making phones iPhone only has apple so about 48% of sales going to the iPhone and 52% going to all droid phones is pretty impressive on apples part.
Long post but hey. I will agree pcs are better for hardcore computer nerds and for gaming but Mac is pretty much everything else

Why are they better for graphic design? Because some hipster art school recommends them? PCs have the same processing power and range of software, if not more, than Macs. There's nothing backing up the claim that Macs are somehow better for graphic design – all the graphics software that's made for Macs is also made for the PC. No software company would be stupid enough to limit their product to the Mac, which makes up less than 5% of the global computer market.
Also, easier to rename files? Really? Since when has anything been easier than highlighting a file in Windows and pressing F2?
The only reason Macs don't get as many viruses is because they occupy so little of the international computer market that virus makers don't care. Besides, only someone with absolutely no understanding of how to maintain a computer would catch a virus. It's incredibly easy not to.
When I asked the question I also wasn't just asking iPad but also MacBook pro and MacBook and just Mac desktops and phones in 2010 apple sold about 110 million MacBook airs per quarter since the start of 2011 they have already sold 560 million that is quite a spike.
Still, that's not going to put a dent in the international computer market. MacBook Airs can't do shit for business people. They lack functionality and are ridiculously expensive for the little practicality they have.
If Apple really wants to compete with Microsoft, IBM, Dell and HP and be considered a serious player, it'll have to create a business machine that's sturdy, cheap and compatible with multiple business platforms. Keep in mind how difficult that is, considering how Microsoft completely dominates in office software. As we see more corporations opening up shop in India and China – you know, overseas, where nobody buys Macs – they're going to continue buying PCs, leaving Apple a novelty company that makes computers for Americans with too much money.
I also find it amazing when people say droids are better because they sell more of them then iPhones but really droid has like 6 decent companies making phones iPhone only has apple so about 48% of sales going to the iPhone and 52% going to all droid phones is pretty impressive on apples part.
I'll give Apple that, they've done a great job with the iPhone platform.
As for the iPad, whether or not it'll do well up against cheaper and more powerful tablets is to be seen.
Long post but hey. I will agree pcs are better for hardcore computer nerds and for gaming but Mac is pretty much everything else
Or, you know, they're better for normal people who don't have extravagant amounts of money to spend on a computer that has the same specifications as a mid-range $550 PC, except in a shiny box with an operating system that's all pretty and colorful.
One more thing apple is making all their products very recyclable so the whole thing can be reused also all toxic materials are removed
It's not possible to build a computer without some toxic materials involved. Also, I'd like to see a source for this statement.

Err... What is that supposed to mean? It isn't 1990 anymore - the MS-DOS 8+3 filename limit or the 4GB maximum file size are history. Nowadays, HFS+ (OSX) and NTFS (Windows) have similar limits and features.
the best software is on macs and "graphics" software macs handle type better
I don't understand what you mean. The main graphics/drawing software are the same under Windows and OSX; I admit I don't see what you mean by "handling type better" in that context.
macs produce cleaner post script than windows do
I also don't understand what you mean here - do you mean when sending a document through the printing system?
apple sold about 110 million MacBook airs per quarter since the start of 2011 they have already sold 560 million that is quite a spike.
Err, no, that would be a LOT of computers for sure :). Apple sold around 700,000 MacBook Airs in 2010 (which is still a very good value, but definitely a more realistic one that 500 million ;)).
I also find it amazing when people say droids are better because they sell more of them then iPhones but really droid has like 6 decent companies making phones iPhone only has apple so about 48% of sales going to the iPhone and 52% going to all droid phones is pretty impressive on apples part.
While the iPhone is definitely a huge commercial success, just don't forget that it was on the market before Android existed, so *of course* its market share is bigger. What matters is the growth speed, and how well Apple will be able to resist against the pressure of its competitors.
Now, people thinking android is better than iOS only because of the relative market share are making a mistake: the most widespread technology is not always the best one technologically speaking.
Long post but hey. I will agree pcs are better for hardcore computer nerds and for gaming but Mac is pretty much everything else
We're not in 1990 anymore - the days when PC users were forced to learn what "EMS" or "DMA" meant are long over...

Hah. I love how you provide numbers with no sources.
According to the IDC: http://www.idc.com/getdoc.jsp?containerId=prUS22762811
As of March 29, 2011, iOS had about 15.7% of the global market share, behind Android with a whopping 39.5% of the market share.
By 2015, the IDC estimates iOS to fall to the #3 spot, behind Windows Phone 7 (Thanks to a recent deal between Nokia & Microsoft), with just 15.3% of the market share. Refer to the chart on the page for the other smartphone OSs and their share, and their projected share.

Please, for the love of Cool Whip, READ THE FUCKING LINKS YOU POST. The first link you posted was from 2008. In 2008, yes, Apple had 21% of the consumer market share. Then Android came out.......
And your second link, from May of 2010 might I add, says nothing. That's Apple's 'Market cap' (From the link YOU actually posted: "Market cap is a measure of the total value of all the outstanding shares of a company, and it’s a proxy for what investors think the company is worth" ... "Apple’s annual revenue was $42.9 billion in the most recent fiscal year(2007), versus Microsoft’s $58.4 billion. "). Apple is only 'larger' on paper, because Apple has nothing to spend the money they're making on.
Microsoft is a 'smaller' company because they spend billions upon billions of dollars of thier money on a HUGE selection of products, and services.

Lol. I don't care who's the bigger company. I care who makes the better product. Macs, in my honest opinion, are a hassle. It's obvious they're "nice and shiny" to some people. Do I give a shit about that? No. I'd be fine if you gave me a copy of Windows XP, just so I could do what I do on Vista, on a brand new computer. What's good about Microsoft is that it's personalized (hence Personal Computer). You can do a lot more with a PC.
As for the iPhone to Android, I have no say in this one. I do not have either one. I'm tempted to give the iPhone a shot, because of the App Store. That's it. No other reason really. Yes, Androids have apps too, but companies are still investing in the iPhone's app store most.
MP3 Players: I have stuck with iPods for the interface. I could care less about the fact that it's Apple. I like the look. Normally I'm the guy for functionality and price over looks. However, I think the extra $100 bucks is worth it to me. Find me another MP3 player with a look and interface I like, I'll switch.

The money is in the business market, not necessarily the consumer market. Apple will never overtake the PC corporations in either because its products are way too expensive for the average consumer. In addition, this article is from 2008, before the release of Windows 7 and all sorts of events in the computer market.

On paper, as mentioned above.
another reason macs are less prone to viruses and faster is that nearly everything in the computer is the same company so it all works better together
No. Apple's computer parts aren't all made by Apple (this is well known and abundantly advertised by them), nor is the software. Again, the only people who get viruses are those who are computer-retarded. As OSX's market share grows (which is very slowly, I might add), so will the number of viruses that target it. That is the only reason Macs aren't as prone to viruses as Windows-based machines are.
Macs are not faster than PCs, for two reasons: all PCs are different, and the PC is customizable and almost infinitely expandable, while the Mac cannot be physically modified by the user. I could easily build a computer for less than $1,000 with twice the processing power of a Mac. In addition to that, my custom-built PC's market value would be much higher than the Mac's, since it can be upgraded over time.

Second in the end macs are better for people who want a smooth and easier experience with a computer and aren't super good with computers if you offered a MacBook pro or hp of same quality for the same price the majority of people would take a MacBook pro
Looking at the top two tablets xoom has sold 100,000 since released in February and apple has sold 2.6 million since its release on march 11th and there is such a high demand apple can't keep up so if they had enough for everyone that wanted one right now they would have a lot more then 2.6 million. First xoom has been shown to be glitchier than iPad 2 it lags more and for the 4g that is "going to come" you have to mail it back to mtorola for the update. Xoom has around 50 apps for it and that is true Yes 50 and iPad has 65,000 And before anyone says yeah but apple has had The iPad out since April or may of 2010 when the original iPad was released there were like 3500 apps for it maybe motorola should make the tablet useful for what a tablet is useful for before releasing it and promising everything later. http://www.padgadget.com/2010/05/01/how-many-ipad-apps-are-there/ http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2383176,00.asp http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/technology/2011/04/motorola-xoom-tablet-has-sold-only-about-100000-units-so-far-deutsche-bank-estimates-.html the iPad 2 has also been rated the best tablet on consumer reports

I'm forced to use Macs at school nearly every day, since our school district has decided to waste taxpayer money on them, and I still haven't picked up on their system. Really, to me, it seems that Apple focuses on making OSX good-looking instead of productive. There's a reason why Macs aren't used in the business world.

I've worked with bothe macs and pc's, and I have to say, macs are better, not because of the company, cause of the quality of the computer. My ibook g4 from 2005 is better than my sisters 1 1/2 year old dell laptop. Her laptop case already has a major crack in it. Her trackpad isn't as reponsive as when it was first out of the box. My ibook has little wear and tear, but there are no cracks and the trackpad isn't even near unresponsive. My ibook may not be as fast as her computer or up to date macs, but the quality of the computer is what matters. And graphic design on macs are more rich in quality IMO. And my computer teachers at my school prefer macs than pcs cause there are a lot more better editing programs to use.
I have a droid 2 global and I can't believe I wanted an iphone. The android has everything the iphone can't do. For example, download music from the internet without jailbreaking. Free music apps without jailbreaking and marketplace apps, flash player, widgets for easy access. Install apps that are not in the marketplace which you can't do on an iphone. You can customize android anyway you want without jailbreaking. If the iphone 5 will be able to do everything that I listed and more which I havnt, ill be impressed. Basically you have to jailbreak your iphone to get everything android does right out of the box. If all iphone users tried an android device, they won't go back to the iphone.
For tablets, I really wouldn't know cause I don't own one.

Well, that's just because Dell is absolute shit. They couldn't make a good computer at a reasonable price if they tried. Dell is to the computer industry as McDonald's is to the restaurant industry.
My ibook may not be as fast as her computer or up to date macs, but the quality of the computer is what matters.
So? You have to remember that you can't categorize all PCs based on your sister's shitty experience with a Dell. My HP desktop computer is going on a year and a half, and there hasn't been anything wrong with it, ever. The computer I had before this also works very well, after doing a simple OS restore because of all the shitware I installed on it before I became fully computer-literate.
Meanwhile, you can categorize all Macs because they're identical, all made by the same company.
And graphic design on macs are more rich in quality IMO. And my computer teachers at my school prefer macs than pcs cause there are a lot more better editing programs to use.
No, not really. Any editing program you can find on the Mac has an equivalent on Windows.
