Immortal Love
April 4th, 2011, 10:27 AM
Just another normal day at school. The birds were singing, sun was shining, and the sound of my friend’s laughter rang in my sensitive ears. Despite the warm weather, people shivered when they passed our group. Why you ask? Well we were the outcasts. Freaks, creeps, call us what you may. You see, we weren’t normal. We were the school’s vampires. Yep, Vampires, and we even had our own little coven. And I was the leader.
My emerald eyes scanned the crowds, looking for anything suspicious. You would be surprised how many people, humans obviously, tried to mess with us. Pulling stupid little pranks like getting a paper cut on purpose, or scratching at a scab. God, the emo’s were the worst. They carried their razors with them, and taunted us by playing with it against their wrists. Not slicing any skin, just egging us on. If only they knew our side.
People these days just aren’t very understanding. They judge first, learn later. To them, we were horrible monsters that would kill them in the blink of an eye. Okay, maybe they were right about that, but it’s not our fault! We can’t help this… parasite, or whatever you want to call it.
With a sigh, I looked back at my friends. My Coven had about six people in it, including me. I still couldn’t see why people were so intimidated by us. Sure we may be speedy, strong, manipulative, and have “gifts”, but we’re not like the Twilight, sparkly vampires. No, we can go in the light; it just weakens us, and makes us sleepy. Yeah we’re quick, and strong, but not superhumanly. Just more then a normal person should be. Then there’s our gift. They vary with each person, depending on what they are good at. Like Issa, she’s short, but very quick on her feet. She can run twice as fast as the rest of us.
Or Ryan, oh Ryan... he can make awquard situations in the blink of an eye. Something about being around him just feels out of place. See? We’re not that weird, now are we?
I hadn’t been paying attention while I had been thinking of my speech on why we Vampires were normal, so I missed the fact that a fight had broken out. What snapped me out of my thoughts was the sound of my boyfriend’s voice in my ear. Sharp, but kind.
“Hunter! Snap out of it! We need to break up that fight before someone- oh Hell, too late…” he growled, and I started scanning around. There, not 10 feet away, was some feisty humans, ganging up on one of the school’s geeks. I really hated that.
With a loud and audible growl, I stalked out from the shade of the tree we had been under, and towards the group. They didn’t notice, but just kept going. The leader of the group, a kid named Elliott laughed as he swung his foot towards the kid’s stomach. It didn’t make contact. I dashed forward, leaping into the air towards Elliott. I could hear a yell from one of his buddies, telling him to watch out. He whipped around just in time to see me flying through the air in his direction. His expression: Priceless.
Before he knew it, I had taken him down, in the middle of the group, while Andrew rushed in, and grabbed the geek. I nodded my head at him, giving him a mental order to take the kid to the nurse, and to keep control. He was bleeding from his head, and nose.
I directed my vision back to Elliott, who lay under me, looking stunned. Hoping I would give him mercy perhaps? In his dreams.
Barring my perfect teeth, he saw my slightly enlarged and lengthy canines, and tried to scramble away. They didn’t look that bad, but I guess when your under a blood thirsty girl that could break you neck in a second, you would do the same.
“Get off of me!!!” his deep, southern voice boomed in my ear, trying to sound steady, but I could just see the fear rolling off of him in waves. So much for the tough bully, eh?
“Hey, get off of em’ you leech!!” one of his buddies yelled, running towards us. A sly smile grew on my pale face as I turned towards the kid, my expression frightening. When his eyes met mine, he stopped right in his tracks, eyes widening. His expression was that of someone who’d seen a ghost. Perfect.
He began backing away, unable to tear his eyes away from my gaze. That meant my gifts were working. Good.
“That’s right Trenton, you just stay back with your other little friends, and don’t move” I said, my voice low and menacing as I broke the gaze between the two of us, and looked back down at Elliott. Time for a little talking.
“Elliott, why did you jump that geek?” I asked voice normal again. If he knew better, he wouldn’t lie, because he knew I’d find out one way or another.
“Cause he’s a little p-“I cut him off, placing my hand over his mouth to shut him up.
“Watch your mouth. You think you’re just so tough, don’t you Elliott? Think that what you say is everyone’s rule. Well guess what, your wrong. I will not stand around here and watch you pick on anyone else. I won’t let them go through what you put me through. No more.”
He just stared at me, eyes narrowed into slits. Trying to get anything to his brain was like trying to walk through a door that wasn’t open. Impossible.
I felt someone set their hand softly on my shoulder, no doubt it was Garrett. I could smell him. Slowly, I looked back, and into his Green eyes. His face, pale and soft, one of the things I loved so much about him.
“Come one love, let’s go. I don’t think he’ll bother anyone for awhile” his voice whispered softly in my ear. I thought for a second, and then nodded as I got off of Elliott.
His buddies rushed over to help him up, but being the jerk he is, he just snapped at them to get away, and let him get up on his own.
He turned in my direction, his expression angered.
“You better watch yourself Hunner’. One day you’ll wake up to see a stake coming for your heart.” He hissed as he walked off, his followers in tow. No doubt he was the ringleader.
As soon as he was out of earshot, I snickered, rolling my eyes. A stake, really? Well if he did impale me with one, I would die. Not because of the legends, but because I can die just as easily as any other person. Stab, shoot, strangle, whatever it may be, I can die. Maybe not as fast, but if not cared for, I will be six feet under, but maybe it was a good thing not many knew that.
My small coven circled around me, looking me up and down to make sure no harm had come to their leader. Only Garrett stood beside me, his arm wrapped kindly around my waist.
“Humph, if that kid knows what’s good for him, he won’t try anything.” Heidi said, her arms crossed as she stood, her weight shifted to one side.
“Yeah, but its Elliott. He doesn’t know left from right.” Ryan commented, which was followed but several snickers of agreement.
I smiled, listening to them banter on all the idiotic things Elliott had done. I loved how even after an ordeal like that, we could go right back to how we were before.
Just as Ryan started up another story about him, the bell rang. We all sighed, grabbing our book bags, and walking off our separate ways. Garrett of course, took my delicate hand in his, and walked with me to my 3rd hour class, which was P.E.
“You know, I wish I could have been him.” He said, his voice trailing off in a thoughtful manner. I looked at him, raising my eyebrow and smirked slightly.
“You like my wrath now? I thought you hated it” he laughed, shaking his head, and making me smile.
“Oh God no. I mean that I would have liked being him because you were laying on him. All sexy like…” he sighed, smiling to himself.
“Mmm…” I laughed lightly, playfully smacking his arm in which he snickered, kissing me softly on the cheek.
“Oh dear, you’re the best” I said with a content sigh as we reached the door to P.E.
“No, you are” I smiled, kissing him on the lips, while I saw some other girls glaring with jealousy.
“Yeah, I am the best.” He snickered again, and I rolled my eyes.
“Funny. Ah, I’ll see you after 4th hour dear. I love you”
“Alright, love you too. Have fun” he said softly, kissing me one last time before jogging off to his class.
I sighed, walking in the door and going to my locker to dress down, a love filled smile on my face as the events of lunch drifted away, replaced with only happiness.
