I kinda do this thing where I bite the skin of my lips off, sometimes I dont even know why, it may be a bad habit, but what else would it be?

If it's just a habit, you're fine. But lip-biting can be considered self-harm, as it is harming yourself. I wouldn't worry about it unless it's purposeful to hurt yourself. I have compulsive skin picking and biting, that includes lip-biting. Though it fits under self-harm, I don't say I just relapsed because I was doing that.

Are you biting your lip with intentions of hurting yourself? Do you do it because you KNOW it's going to do bodily harm and you completely except that? That's self-harm. But if you're doing it without thinking (Such as my head-scratching and what not) then it's an obsessive habit, something that can be caused by nerves and anxiety. I bite my lips when I feel self-concious. I chew on the insides of them and make them raw. I also scratch my head until I'm bleeding but not because I'm trying to intentionally hurt myself. It's a nervous habit.

Nervous habit!

I do this. I never really count it as self harm. I know I do it more when i'm upset or in a difficult situation, so I guess it is self harm, but compared to my cutting it's harmless really so I tend not to count it.

Basically do you notice what triggers you to do it? Is it being bored? Or being upset? What triggers it determines if it's self harm or not really.

I do it too, it isn't really all that bad. I would still attempt to break the habit if you can. I am trying... xD

I think what causes it is nervousness, and boredom, sometimes I purposely do it when I'm yelled at and what-not
