It will help at least a little bit. He'll probably recommend you to see a therapist that he knows and help out on the appropriate course of action. It's good you're trying to get help :) He'll probably ask standard questions to make sure you aren't at high risk if he is like my doctor. Stay strong :)

In my experience, talking to adults (especially adults who don't know me very well) is not very helpful at all. The ones who have been the biggest help to me have been my close friends, and people who have been through the same thing as me. I've never seen a doctor about it, but i have talked to my school councilor (not by choice), and that didn't help at all. It actually made it worse. How did your parents react? Have they been helpful?

When they asked me it was mainly about suicidal thoughts, which I had a lot at the time, so instead of taking a milder approach they sent me to the hospital. I didn't really like that, but in general it did get me through it.
Usually it'll be like
How many times to do cut per day?
Do you have suicidal thoughts?
Do you have a plan?
etc,
Just answer them truthfully so they can help :) And if you ever need someone to talk to you can PM me.

No, it really depends on whether or not the doctor believes you're a risk to yourself or others. Just be truthful so you can get the help you need. If they believe that you're a risk to yourself or someone else they're required by law to commit you, so you can't blame them.

They'll be able to refer you to a councillor, therapist or phsychiatrist depending on what they think you need. They may offer you medication or some form of therapy that could help.
They won't send you to a hospital for suicidal thoughts. I tried to attempt and other than being in the hospital to get treatment for my overdose, I wasn't put in hospital, just councelling.

I found going to the doctors didnt help me.
But if they hook you up with a therapist or someone it is worth a try?
Well done for asking for help. That is a hard thing to do :)

They'll refer to a therapist. There's not really anything a doctor can do to help you overcome self-harming.

The only times I've seen kids sent to the hospital with something like that was by ambulance with deep cuts in their arms. If you get an ambulance called on you, well, yes. But otherwise, unless it's your parents doing it, you won't be forced into a hospital as far as I'm concerned. I know of doctors forcing some patients into hospitalization, but it's usually a bit more than just suicidal thoughts (that makes it sound like it isn't that big of a deal :/) I mean, probably some serious underlying issues. Whenever I said I wanted to kill myself, I just had my meds increased. But when I had a complete mental breakdown, they would start saying "Maybe we should send you back to the hospital..." which would make me even more hysteric anyway.
There is a lot of a point. Like it's been said already, they might refer you to a specialist. A lot of people have mixed opinions about them, but honestly, whether it's helping or not, the important thing is finding someone you can talk to who is unbiased and not part of your life (as to avoid having specific things that you don't want to tell them because of who they are, like you might not want to tell your parents about an ED but it's easier to tell someone like a therapist).

Pretty much it's been said. They will refer you to a therapist, and your therapist can help. There is a point, go, it can help.

I am seeing the doctor tomorrow morning for something unrelated but I do want to talk ti him about seeing a psychologist. I have absolutely no idea about how to bring this up with him and I really don't want my parents to know any of the details. But I know i do need professional help with the things that cause me to cut.
The Doctor was fine when i told about him most things, I never mentioned my self harm. He asked me to get a blood test because of somethings that may cause depression. They asked for me to choose and arm so i chose my right one because that doesn't have any cuts on it. Then they fucked up and had to use my left arm which has a lot of cuts on it with most being less than a week old. After they saw that I just felt terrible and the mood in the room changed and they just seem to treat me different. It was just a nurse and a trainee in there so I don't know whether or not they will tell me doctor but they probably will.
