View Full Version : Effortless Threads

Can we make a rule against just posting a thread that has nothing in the original post except a Youtube video? I'm really sick and tired of going to TWPR and every single thread I click is nothing but a youtube video that we've all probably already seen anyway. It's obnoxious. It's stupid, it's pointless, and it's annoying. If you really want to share something a video, why not, you know... Write something about it? When I posted (http://virtualteen.org/forums/showthread.php?t=98994) a video thread a while ago, I had actually thought things out, typed up some words, and had intended to start something of a discussion.
I'm just sick of this. Is it so wrong to wish people would put some effort into posting threads? Are we so soft-skinned as to shoot down any attempt at getting people to post better? Excuse me for getting frustrated over a hundred threads with nothing but a video and people saying "Ha ha!" or "NOT FUNNY."
It genuinely feels like almost every thread in TWPR is just spam now.

I feel inclined to agree.

I agree. there has been a lot of posts with just a video and a small amount of text.

I'm not against people posting videos, don't get me wrong: But if you're going to, at least have a point.

I agree wholeheartedly.
Also, I'd like a rule that'll help crack down on threads about individual songs in the Music section. Those threads almost always consist of someone posting the name of a song and calling it great, with everyone subsequently agreeing, or posting a song nobody's heard of and asking if anyone knows it. Hardly any song is worthy of its own thread. It's all just spam.

Because it is Sage, we must all agree. :P
Or not. It's just about sharing videos man, the video will still get discussed whether the OP writes an essay that no one will read about it or not. It's just another suggestion on this site about something that doesn't matter. And it would be quite a petty rule that really doesn't prevent anything, but more so just pushes people not to post threads about videos at all - something seemingly illogical as these kind of threads are particularly enjoyed.
Most of the threads in TWPR are just meaningless spam, there's not a lot anyone's going to do about that. If you don't enjoy it, you don't have to look there.

In my opinion, if they're just going to post a video, we should have a stickied thread where people can share videos instead of spamming the TWPR. Unless, like you said, there's a point to posting the video ie. invoking thought or discussion in the viewer. I definitely don't think there should be entire spam threads devoted to a single video however.

Yeh agreed. I also like Rith's idea.
Or we could have a sub-forum just for youtube videos? Idk.

If so, put it in the Arcade. A thread for nothing but video posting would be spam.
Nevertheless, I agree absolutely with Sage. Within my membership I swear I've seen roller skating babies at least five times already.

I actually quite like that idea.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I recall at one point there was a diary dedicated to just random Youtube videos. I don't know if it still exists and just got a name change or what.

I like Rith's idea.
or...there MIGHT be a mod for this, but I don't know. we can have a place to post videos and people can comment on them. like an area for videos. you know how we have blogs? Kinda like that.
edit: but besides the fact a mod for this might not exist, this is a help forum...uh so yeah
if there isn't a special add-on/modification for that, we should go with Rith's idea, but we should place it in the Arcade

It's the Viral Video Hut which is now Just Curious (http://virtualteen.org/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=142) brother lol and it definitely could use some traffic. Though I had a discussion with someone else and he had a fabulous idea. Making a sticky for youtube videos in the white padded room. The Arcade is strictly for games, not videos. So there are options, people just want their video to be exclusive, but just don't know where to put them. The sub forum idea is just not going to happen unfortunately. General Discussions is an absolutely packed area and I don't think making it anymore cluttered and individualized than it already is. So now y'all know where to put em. Anymore questions on placement or suggestions, shoot me a line and I'll discuss it with you.

Making a sticky for youtube videos in the white padded room.
So, in enforcing a rule against spam, would any "effortless thread" posted in TWPR just be merged with the designated sticky?

The designated sticky would be specifically made for the videos strictly. That way the videos that are only to be presented as you so put it, would go there. If you're presenting a video and have nothing to say regarding the video, maybe nothing like your video, but more said about the video than just a two worded response can have their own thread, but having a video with nothing said would be moved to the sticky. And if anyone has a comment about the video posted in the sticky, they may quote the person and comment. That way they know what video is being commented on. Or they can just post it in "Just Curious" if you don't really understand what I just explained. It probably to be honest won't be too strictly enforced, but the obvious cases will be.
