Well, Black Swan was a movie that you could pretty much interpret yourself. My entire explanation, was that she was growing more and more paranoid and with the Black Swan side of her she never had coming into view and taking over. I wrote a review of it that covered some of this. Overall, I think it's just a big metaphor for loss of innocence.
Basically though, her turning into a swan was her imagination, not what was really going on.

The final act of the film comprises the most riveting 40 minutes I've seen on screen all year, though "Black Swan" is never the mindf**k some have improperly labeled it.

The ending represented how Nina finally believed that she had reach perfection. She lived the role, in the ballet of Black swan the white swan does kill herself. Thus Nina lived the role and killed herself to be perfect as both the Black and White Swan.

So basically, she was very paranoid about someone (Lily) taking her part because she had worked so hard to be perfect for the part. She put every ounce of her talent into the part and was scared shitless someone else would get it. So, Nina, already being incredibly fragile, forms two different identities that aid her in transforming from one character to the next. The White Swan was her usual shy and scared identity. The Black Swan was the side of her she had to release in order to play that part. When she "stabs Lily" she is stabbing her fears and her paranoia, which Lily represents since Nina was scared she would try to take the part from her. And because no one was really against her to begin with, it was really herself that she stabbed because she was the source of all her insecurities, not anyone else.
