View Full Version : Cutting playlist?

So, sometimes I like to listen to music when I cut (sounds morbid, but it's relaxing, and usually when I listen to music when I cut, I don't cut as deep, which is good). Some of the music is specifically about cutting, some of it can just be twisted around to be about cutting. Sometimes I like music that lets me wallow in the pain and the cutting, other times I like music that makes me think this won't last forever and one day soon I won't need cutting to be my crutch in life. I'm looking for some suggestions?
Some examples: the song "Bleeding Love" by Leona Lewis was probably not intended to be about cutting, but it could definitely be interpreted that way.
"Tourniquet" by Evanescence is a made-about-cutting song I like, though I'm usually not into that kind of "emo" music... I'm too preppy, lol.
Linkin Park's two songs "Breaking the Habit" and "Bleed It Out" are really good, too.
I also like Alanis Morissette's "That I Would Be Good" and the Beatles' "Yesterday." They aren't about cutting, but I like them because they sort of catch the emotion you feel...
As a hopeful song, I like Green Day's "Time of Your Life"... makes me think cutting won't last forever and I'll stop someday... but their "Boulevard of Broken Dreams" is a good song to wallow in...
Muse has great songs, too, like "Starlight" and "Map of the Problematique."
Any other suggestions? I want to get a good playlist together to keep on hand.
Thanks!

^ Even though it's not my music, The Way She Feels was the key in me surviving one of my hospitalizations. I was seriously a wreck. I sang it quietly to myself each night, ended up writing the lyrics out a few times in my journal. A lot of people take it in the religious sense, which turns me off, but I liked it because it's an optimistic song and in my mind I thought of finding a guy who will help me get through it. And it happened :P
I don't think you want my suggestions because of music taste, but I'll give you them anyway. :P
Self harm-related:
Bad Habit - The Dresden Dolls
Hurt - Nine Inch Nails
Bleed Like Me - Garbage (it's also a little of everything, but it does directly mention self-harm)
General psych:
Breathe Me - Sia (I see it as self-harm, but it's not obvious)
Runs In The Family - Amanda Palmer
HRSA - Blue October
Chameleon Boy - Blue October
Schizophrenia - Blue October
Opheliac - Emilie Autumn
Swallow - Emilie Autumn
The Art of Suicide - Emilie Autumn
Me and a Gun - Tori Amos
Medication - Garbage

I personally love how the main mod of the psych ward knows what people here are going through. That to me shows how deticated to VirtualTeen's members the administrators are. :)

***
My playlist also has kind of darker music in it. Last night while I was cutting I was actually singing along. Oh, and yes, I actually have a specific list for it titled 'Grr'. Here's the songs.
This Is Halloween- Panic! At The Disco
All These Cuts- Lee Skinner ( About Cutting)
Lose Control- Blood On The Dancefloor
Breathe Me- Sia (About Self Harm)
Little Angel- Ana Johnson
Bullet With Butterfly Wings - The Smashing Pumpkins
Labyrinth- Oomph
Pain- Three Days Grace
When I Am Queen- Jack Off Jill
Unwanted- Avril Lavigne
Fear Of Dying- Jack Off Jill
Strawberry Gashes- Jack Off Jill ( About Cutting)

I tend not to listen to music while I cut, but I do listen to songs about self harm.
Bleed like me - Garbage (not only about self harm, but the title sort of implies it...)
The way she feels - Between the trees
Cut - Plumb
With this knife - Smile empty soul
Hurt - Nine Inch Nails
I have loads of others that are about mental illnesses and similar problems like abuse and stuff that aren't completely related to self harm, and I know quite a few that suggest self harm, but it's not actually said.
Breath me - Sia
Concrete Angel - Martina McBride (about child abuse)
Nobody's Home - Avril Lavigne
Fix you - Coldplay
Not Afraid - Eminem (about recovering from an alcohol addiction, but you can interpret it in a different way easily)
Love the way you lie part 1 and 2 - Rihanna and Eminem (Domestic abuse, but you can interpret it in another way)
Going under - Evanescence
Bring me to life - Evanescence
Everybody's fool - Evanescence
Only happy when it rains - Garbage
I think I'm paranoid - Garbage (suggests mental illness, but not explicitly)
Under the bridge - Red hot chilli peppers (addictions)
Scar tissue - red hot chilli peppers
Beauty from pain - superchick
Pain - Three days grace
I could go on... :P
Honestly though, you can interpret any song you want in any way you want. There are a lot of songs in the charts right now, and even though they're all pretty shit, you can interpret the lyrics to make them about whatever you want. That's the good thing about music, the listener can make it personal to them.

Knives and pens by Black Veil Brides, Black Rose Dying by Blass the Fall, Tillt the Hour Glass by Alesana, A Boy Brushed Red Living in Black and White by Underoath, most Evenecence songs, any song by Mayday Parade or Bayside. Lets just stop at that cause I have a lot more. I'm not to sure why but for some reason music like this calms me down. Maybe I'm just weird like that :/
Peace :-)

I Know My Friend Listens To Breaking Benjamin- Dear Agony
And Other Songs. I'll Ask. I Don't Cut But When I Try To Drink Myself Into A Coma I Listen To Music.
Nevermore
April 7th, 2011, 02:01 PM
any song I can twist it to self injury.
Jar of Hears
Dresdon Dolls
Evanescence
Marilyn Manson
It depends what mood I'm in. I'll listen to anything while cutting or burning. There are songs that remind me of self injury, they of course are directly related and have self injury in them.

No, I don't cut to music either, I stopped doing that a long time ago. I just like to listen to music that I can relate to lyrically, which is where my cutting playlist comes in :P

Instead of my "cutting" playlist could I put my "self-harming" playlist? :D

Full Of Grace
-Sarah McLachlan
The winter here's cold and bitter,
it's chilled us to the bone.
We haven't seen the sun for weeks,
too long, too far from home.
I feel just like I'm sinking,
and I claw for solid ground.
I'm pulled down by the undertow,
I never thought I could feel so low,
and, oh, darkness, I feel like letting go.
If all of the strength and all of the courage
come and lift me from this place.
I know I can love you much better than this:
Full of grace, Full of grace, my love.
It's better this way,
I said,
Haven't seen this place before.
Where everything we say and do,
hurts us all the more.
It's just that we stayed too long
in the same old sickly scheme,
and I'm pulled down by the undertow,
I never thought I could feel so low,
and, oh, darkness, I feel like letting go.
If all of the strength and all of the courage
come and lift me from this place
I know I can love you much better than this:
Full of grace, full of grace.
I know I can love you much better than this.
It's better this way.

I always remember when I was much younger, I bought Taking Back Sunday's album Louder Now, and I really loved it so it was permanently in my CD player for weeks and weeks. I was cutting a couple of times a week then and every time I would go to my bedroom to do so, I would just press play on my CD player and the first song would always be What's It Feel Like To Be a Ghost? by Taking Back Sunday. Whenever I hear it now, it reminds me of those times.

Thanks... um, its a very meaningful playlist, and its hard for me not to play any of those songs over and over -- every single song has a deep meaning and its correlated to a specific moment.
May I ask why you listening to Creep?
