is this a good idea or will it do more damage?

It may not be as pleasant compared to normal skin and will increase the chance for the scar to be permanent. There's no medical difference from my knowledge..

that will do for me
the only reason i asked is them scars will pretty much be there for a long time
and i dont really want to make new ones there so if i go over the old ones that are going to be there anyway it will look less.

Eh, be careful about cutting on top of old scars. First off, it's much harder to cut it, because scar tissue is tougher than regular skin tissue, so you'd really have to hack it to draw blood or leave any marks. Which would leave a deeper scar than usual. If you're looking to leave more permanent or more obvious scars, that's a good way to do it. If you don't like scars, pick someplace else.

And by the way, even though you have a scar for six months, it's still very likely it'll go away with time. Re-cutting the same place makes it less likely that it'll eventually disappear.

If you feel like reading my story, or leaving your story, or talking to me or other cutters, go to my new blog/forum at www.anywayyousliceit.webs.com. Hope to see you there.

I never cut over scars, unless they were minor/quite old. I have some of my worse scars that thinking of cutting over them would make me cringe (they're the thick, hard, ugly, pink ones). I have some older white scars from a couple years ago I would probably have an easier time with. But the really bad scar I have on my arm, I did it a year ago and I still can't imagine cutting it.

I can't imagine it would feel good either... even in that self-harm way.

Medical-wise, I don't think it would be an issue however.
