View Full Version : How can parents justify circumision?

I'm circumcised, and I resent it, but I don't see at all how my parents could have justified it, other than something similar to 'like father, like son'. Neither of my parents are devoutly religious and both are really intelligent people, so it doesn't really make sense that they could have made such a huge choice without the proper research, and I'm not really up to asking them about it.
Regardless, I'm working on restoring my foreskin (as it's not a complete circumcision, so I still have some foreskin left) so we'll see how that goes.

circumsision has many health benefits among other religious reasons. Parents will always have reasons, bad or good.

My parents did it to keep some Pakistani-Muslim culture going, be it insignificant. And I really don't care if I were circumcised or not, it really just doesn't bother me. It means nothing.
And I appreciate them doing it, so I can keep what little culture I have left in my life.

I wouldn't call religion a justification for any surgery. That's ridiculous.
It can be justified under cleanliness/hygiene. Really, such an operation should be left up to the child when they're mature enough to think for themselves, not forced on them right after birth.

It's not like we remember it happening. If people have it done later in their lives they 1. remember it, and 2. will not grow used to it as easily as a toddler would.

In most religious and cultures, it is a tradition. In Islam, an uncircumcised man is not a man.
But well being circumcised has many advantages rather than disadvantages.

Well, personally, I think only surgeries essential to the baby's survival should be performed after birth. Something like circumcision is a personal issue that should be left up to the individual.

Circumcision is a near harmless procedure It barely does anything to the person's Psyche. Now if it was to remove an appendage like an arm or leg, anything that can effect the way a person functions for the rest of his life, then yeah I would be against it. But circumcision is nothing to be making a fuss about if the person wants it back there are always to restore the forskin. Does that mean toddler piercing should be illegal too?

Circumcision is a near harmless procedure
Actually it has several risks. (http://children.webmd.com/tc/circumcision-risks)
It barely does anything to the person's Psyche.
Then why are there so many men desperate to regrow it?

There are ways to restore it slightly, but most if not all are unsuccessful.

There's a big difference. If someone doesn't want their ears pierced, all they have to do is take out their earrings.

Yes but read the second sentence. It assumes that these complications are not common. That's why I said nearly harmless. If done correctly these risks are very minimal. Thus, my point still stands.
Then why are there so many men desperate to regrow it?
That's subjective, you may say that men in your area want to regrow it. And I can say that men in my area don't mind it being gone.
Second, by affecting a person's psyche I meant no one goes mad from the procedure so much so as to stop living successful lives.
There are ways to restore it slightly, but most if not all are unsuccessful.
Results may vary, but they don't go unsuccessful most of the time. Full foreskin restoration can be achieved.
There's a big difference. If someone doesn't want their ears pierced, all they have to do is take out their earrings. I'll acknowledge that, I guess that was a bad comparison.

Meh. I don't know, and don't particularly care. I'm a bit annoyed maybe, but one can't miss what one has never had.

But you are born with it, therefore one can miss what one had long before.

Typically you have it for like, a few days. The baby won't be able to remember having it.

Unless it was done in your teen years, as of here. I miss my foreskin much, if it wasn't for the overall social rejection and humiliation you would get if your willie wasn't slit in a way that it looks like it was passed through a grinder! Even though I had the consent to refuse, everyone would weigh you down and call you a cowardly faggot.

That is why I said 'typically'. But out of curiosity, where do you live and why is that tradition present?

I didn't think of it that much, really. I'm in the Philippines. It's a rite of passage, but I don't really know where it's from.

I think people who view it 'evil' are just plain nuts. It's a cosmetic thing that some people choose for their kids partly because religious or medical reasons. I dont see a difference if someones dick is cut or uncut, its still a dick
