Well a lot of people cope with emotions through food, subconsciously sometimes, so they are potentially related.

Same for me but my case is different, I have an eating disorder so whenever I do eat I cut more and usually deeper out of guilt, anger, embarrassment, and self-hate.

When I do cut, I eat better than I normally do. When I don't cut, I relapse into anorexia. It's like my mind wants me to have at least one self-destructive behaviour, I can't get rid of all of them.

Your mind wants one coping mechanism. You must have a lot of stress. And you're right, you can't go cold turkey on all stress management, that's begging for trouble.

Hmm. I'd guess that cutting doesn't cause the eating habits, or vice versa, but that they both stem from the same feelings. So when you feel a certain way, you eat more/less, and the same feeling makes you want to cut. But that's just my opinion.
I don't think my cutting influences the way I eat. I guess I'm just not that observant. I'm one of those weird vegetarian health nutjobs- all my friends tease me about it. When I was bulimic, it wasn't about the food or the weight, since I never had to worry about that... it was just about control, and having something to point to that explained why I felt as sick as I did.
So I'd guess... yeah, if you have an eating disorder of some sort, you probably relapse the worst at the same time you're cutting. After all, EDs and self injury go hand in hand, right?
Anyway. For more about me, or if you want to tell your story, I'd love to hear it and talk to you guys at my new blog/forum, www.anywayyousliceit.webs.com.

Yes, when I feel guilty for eating so much or for wanting to eat in the first place. I'll be a lot more likely to cut.
