Cutting across your arm or cutting down? I've been getting conflicting reports from people so I'm just wondering as to which is more dangerous.

I think cutting down, incase you cut down your vein?
But both are equally dangerous if you cut deep.

It depends mostly on how deep you go tbh.

Cutting full stop is dangerous. It depends on the depth I suppose.
But in general the rule is vertical across the wrist, you're more likely to hit a vein and bleed out. I actually cut vertical over my wrist quite often and recently I had the scary experience that it wouldn't stop bleeding. Please don't do it.

But cutting itself is dangerous, I certainly don't recommend it try the distractions first. Writing, Drawing, music etc. Or snap an elastic band or rub ice on your wrist.

If you really need to cut try and stay away from your wrist, it's dangerous and just not a good thing to do. Keep it other places (arms etc.) if anywhere at all.

I'm here to talk should you need too.

Cutting down is more dangerous as you're cutting more of the vein. Always stick to cutting across If you really have to cut, but obviously try distractions and stuff first.

If you do hit a vein, cutting across will heal much faster. If you cut down along the vein, it'll have more difficulty healing, better chance you'll bleed out really.

That is, of course, if it's deep enough. Surface scratches are the same either way. If you do much more than that, I wouldn't risk it.

Well there's me talking. The only issue I have with my scars is that they're all vertical on my arms. Makes it look like a failed suicide attempt to be honest.

I think that cutting down is more dangerous because you could cut more of your vein if you hit one. But tbh if u cut too deep it doesnt reali make any difference.

it depends... along vein or not, how deep, how far up your arm, ect.

If you cut the long way (like from elbow to wrist) it's much more dangerous and you're much more likely to kill yourself. Don't do that.

Cutting across your wrist is less likely, but STILL VERY DANGEROUS. If you have to cut, cut something that doesn't have some major artery that you really need. Cut your shoulder, your upper arm, your hip, the outside of your thigh, etc. (I cut my upper left arm and my right hip, if you're curious). I don't want anything to happen to you! Please be careful!
