3 doors down maybe. their older but insane band. if you like country i have endless pages of songs (im kinda obbsessed with music and my favorite genre is country). you might like jason aldean. lady antebellum. colt ford. darius rucker. alan jackson. brooks and dunn. ronnie dunn. josh turner. montgomery gentry. rascal flatts. like i said endless list. now some of those are not real country so not the weird old western song a voice people think of. thats old old country. modern country is alot better with a lit more pop in it. heck jason aldean does some kinda rap. that songs called dirt road anthem. someone might yell at me for saying this but james blunt. keith urban does a few good ones. kings of leon(older band but still good) does two good ones, use somebody and sex on fire. ill stop there before i drive someone crazy. dont be afraid to ask me for some more music becuase i can give you a few good ones from almost any genre.

Good point. Besides, pop isn't too bad if it's indie pop. Don't have much on it, but:

6gvOVWKKxmo

Firekites - Autumn Story. Firekites, like tons of other good indie bands, are from Australia.

2yTlfWv_Mb0

Anathallo - The River. (the song isn't 9 minutes, it's like 5, the youtube clip just fails)

PsXhQfIZD2c

Fanfarlo - The Walls Are Coming Down.

But, other music I'd suggest, try looking out for the newest gem from Australia, Inland Sea. You can try their song Traitor (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ELVdaRxExxM).

Lady gaga - Judas

Natalia Kills - Wonderland

Couldn't agree more lol. But hey, not all of us are like that.

What I listen to largely depends on my mood. I listen to mostly Classic Rock with a little bit of Metal thrown in there. Something to look up would be Foreigner, Journey, REO Speedwagon, Disturbed, Iron Maiden, etc...

I know you said songs but with the bands that I listed you could listen to just about any of their songs and know whether or not you will like them.

...yeah.

Nice taste. I recommend most what embers says. Also OP, I would try instead of listening to just songs by certain artists, but listen to full albums. My philosophy, which you don't have to agree on, is that if there's only a few good tracks on the album then the artist isn't worth it. It kills the album experience if you only have a few out of all the tracks on the album too, so try to actually listen to a full album.

I don't know exactly what type of music you like either, so it would be hard to give recommendations. Here's a few albums that I recommend to anyone regardless of certain taste.

Third - Portishead (Experimental music. Their other two albums are really good trip hop)
By The Throat - Eyedea & Abilites (An album that I think takes a dump on the rap stereotype.)
Addicts & Drunks - Ghosts And Vodka (Math rock, instrumental. Relaxing and crazy at times and a perfect album for opening up people to instrumental music)
Sunset Mission - Bohren & Der Club Of Gore (For people who dislike jazz. A very accessible album and I've only talked to one person who didn't like it when I recommended it. That's because he's a gay folk loving hipster.)
Rossz csillag alatt született - Venetian Snares (This is an album perfect for anyone who doesn't know much about electronic music or enjoys this type of stuff too. Breakcore with classical. I think it's easily the best electronic album ever made.)
Endless Summer - Fennesz (This is a good album to open people to ambient music.)
I See A Darkness - Bonnie 'Prince' Billy (For opening people up to folk and singer songwriter music. Moody album that's been universally praised)

I'm pretty sure if you listen to all those albums you'll have allot more accessible taste and you'll be able to open yourself to allot more music out there that the mainstream hides from you.

Yeah, I broke your rule and recommended albums instead of songs. That's really the only way I recommend things though.

Sage has allot of good shit on his youtube profile here (http://www.youtube.com/user/Desus47) that I recommend. Check out AJ's Hip Hop Thread (http://virtualteen.org/forums/showthread.php?t=88253) and Jazz Thread (http://virtualteen.org/forums/showthread.php?t=87439) too!

Anything by these two bands is essential if you like progressive/instrumental songs. Highly recommended.

Third - Portishead (Experimental music. Their other two albums are really good trip hop)
By The Throat - Eyedea & Abilites (An album that I think takes a dump on the rap stereotype.)

These two albums are absolutely stunning musically and lyrically. If you don't have these two albums already, you have no idea what you're missing.

Also why do people not listen to full albums?

Because if something isn't 3 or 4 minutes, it's not worth listening to.

To OP, my recommendations are:

Nine Inch Nails - Anything by NIN is absolutely perfect. My personal favorite is Pretty Hate Machine.

Frank Zappa - King of experimental music. Check out Joe's Garage, Hot Rats, and Zoot Allures to start yourself off. He released 75 albums of original material through his career, so put yourself in easily with his discography.

Porcupine Tree - One of the best progressive rock groups around. Signify, Fear of a Blank Planet, and In Absentia are all masterpieces beginning to end. Lead singer and guitarist Steven Wilson has multiple projects, so if you like Porcupine Tree, check out Blackfield, Bass Communion, I.E.M., and No-Man.

Dream Theater - A famous progressive metal band. Any album is fine to start off with, but I would go with Systematic Chaos and Images and Words first before anything else.

The Dear Hunter - Another group that is often labeled as progressive/indie. Go with Act I: The Lake South, The River North and Act II: The Meaning of and All Things Regarding Ms. Leading. Highly revolves around acoustic guitar, so look out for that in a large amount of the songs.
