Who here thinks that we should stop boycotting Cuba, we have basically forced them to become a third world country right to our south. Even with imports from other countries they still continue to remain with 50s technology(ish). My friend went to Cuba and nearly car there was a 50s model of some car.

Tell me what you think.

I really don't even care about the political part, I just want to be able to go there. It sounds like an amazing place to visit.

Cuba is actually pretty nice for a third world country. They have fairly good universities and healthcare and everything.

Not to mention the cigars.

I find it silly we have an embargo on them. Americans would bring much wealth to that place.

I think that the ridiculous sanctions the United States places on Cuba in the name of far-outdated Cold War policies should be lifted. There's no reason to continue punishing Cuba for doing... well, nothing.

Agreed. Plus, i feel like the dictatorship there is going to crumble soon.

Slow down there now :P...I wanna be able to see Cuba before it gets bumrushed by corporate America. I'm not saying the situation there is better...but I think we all know what America would do to Cuba's tourist hotspots and prime property.

With the quality of some of the beaches there, and all the coastline, it would be Hell there during summer.

What makes Cuba " Cuba " is that it is American free.

Much better than the United States own healthcare and universities, that's for sure. Really, they aren't as undeveloped as people put them out to be.

Not to mention the cigars.

Too bad they're illegal :P

I sense that you have some deep set hatred of anything "American".

Not to mention the cigars.

The only reason why they are illegal is because of the embargo. Also people think that all Cubans are awesome cigars, but I'm sure there are some bad ones just as there are here in America.

I don't think it is fair to boycott any country, because it affects the people in it as well as the people leading it. It is like attacking a flea because your cat bit you. There has to be something else we can do to the same affect.

Cuba stands unique as a communist - former communist country and is also unique since all the countries around it have American influence all over them.

It would be nice to trade with cuba, they have some good stuff, not to mention the fact that we have Guantanamo there, so it seems fair.

It may be unique but a failed practice. Their economy is still in shambles, their only real allies are Bolivia, Venezuela and China and they have constantly had accusations of anti-human rights.

Overall, America should remove trade and travel restrictions with Cuba. They need the tourism and money and we need to move past former issues with them.

I think it's a bias against communism. Do they even know what runs in Cuba?

I don't really like the embargo put upon Cuba. It keeps their economy really at bay, while they're not doing anything at all.

As a Brit, my understanding of US-Cuba relations are limited, although i did study the Cold War at GCSE. However, the cold war has finished and the very strict travel regulations the US government has put in place aren't exactly democratic to reflect the supposedly 'land of the free'. In fact it is very similar, although not as extreme, as the Soviet ban on travel into certain countries. However, with Obamas renewal of the embargo, this seems unlikely for a few years.

This. Of course we also like to delude ourselves by thinking Castro is some evil, genocidal maniac.
