View Full Version : Really Need Help Here...

So... this is my 8th grade year and I am having some problems with my parents and (dramatic music) High School.

My dad's a huge alumni of a certain school and really wants me to go to the school he attended. I do not want to go to this school because no one I care about is going to be attending that school... no one. I have tried and tried and tried again to convince them to let me go to the school I want to go to, but I cannot get them to see differently.

Yeah, I understand that "I'll meet new friends" but I have been friends with the people of my year for much too long to dump them off and just forget them. I need some help in the most desperate way. Any advice other than "suck it up and deal with it" will be gladly accepted.

(Parent's Reasoning: The school is too big, and we want you to attend XXXXX High School.)

How have you tried to convince them?

I have given them my points of view on it... and played on what they care about. I even got my mom to consider it until my father screamed and 'talked' with her until she rejected the idea altogether.

Hmm.. Why does your father want you to go there so badly?

Hmm.. Why does your father want you to go there so badly?
Because he's alumni. Sweet and simply, idiotically alumni. He claims that this school is better than the school I want to go to and yet I have never heard a good story about his oh so awesome school.

My mom didn't really care until he yelled at her. But now, she's on his side... and crying. Because she now thinks I hate her. Her excuse is that the school is too big and I'd be culture shocked. There are kids that have attended my Elementary / Middle School all their lives and have never set foot into the high school I want to go to, and their parents have no problem sending them there. And these are the good parents, too.

Have you tried getting an aunt or uncle to put in a good word for you?

I may try that. Thanks for your advice. On the large chance that doesn't work, do you have any other advice? :)

Other than that one, other than live with it, not really. Just keep working on convincing them that you really want to go to this one, and not the one your parents want you to go to.

Maybe you should do some research on the school and see how good it really is...if you come up with bad reviews than maybe you can present this to your dad. I'm sure the school is different than when he went to it...in the 80's or something :D. Lol anyways, maybe you could also see if any of your friends could convince their parents to let them go there too? Good luck! ~Caitlin :P

Edit~~Sorry, I didn't read the other post you made...oh well, good job! :P

Maybe make a deal with ur parents that u could try that
school for a semester and if it's shitty then u can transfer to the one with your friends or u could say something like dad I understand why u want me to go to ur old school but this is my turn for high school and I feel that I would be more comfortiable at this other school and I know ur my parents and u think that this school is what's best but I want the other school is where I want my high school experence to be. Or something idk

Sounds like your dad wants what HE thinks is best for you, if you really dont want to go to this school, and over time your parents see you truly dont want to go there, im sure they'll support whatever decision you make. Good luck bro
