well you dont need them to get in shape but they make it a little easier.

They are generally expensive, because they come to you to help you. It also depends if they are going to go jogging with you, or they are just going to help you with weight lifting and other excercises.

I like personal trainers because sometimes it is hard for you to find that motivation to get up and exercise, and they give u the motivation.

i think it would be smarter for you to learn the proper techniques of working out and excersising and do them yourself.
