alright so I have had this job since november of 2009, I work at a supermarket as a cashier. my hair is down to my top lip if I straighten it all down, but for work I don't, I just push it over one side. I spike the back up, it's as tall as the width of an ipod touch. it's not straight up, it's just messied up. and I have 4 piercings in one ear, and one in the other. a stud in my tragus, two rings in the normal cartilage area and a short barbell where the front of an industrial should be in my left, and a small ring in my right. I have had these piercings since june of last year and they never said a THING. company policy says salaried people, like managers and junk are only allowed one stud in each earlobe. (I think, that or no piercings, I forget.) NOTHING about part time. then about hair, it says no extreme hair styles. I got called into the office the other day and they were yelling at me, and telling me I need a haircut, or else.. and that I have to take out my piercings, but this girl has like 6 in one ear and 8 in the other and a nose ring. (oh, no facial piercings either, for anyone). they say nothing to her, I think it's because she's really close with the store manager. like 5 other girls at the shop have their noses pierced, nothing's said.
so, is this discrimination because I'm a boy? I applied for other jobs, I'm trying to see if I can get a job somewhere else and if they hire me, I'm quitting the super market. is this a good idea?
SORRY THIS IS SO LONG

I can relate. I remember I had this one job. Me and a co-worker of mine, we were always punished for the stupidest thing, yet this one girl who would always break rules, and not perform well was never cussed at. Because her boyfriend was the boss. I couldn't be believe it. But unfortunately, it is their company, and if they tell you to take your piercings out, and cut your hair, you have to, or they will fire you. I really hope that you do find another job. I couldn't be able to work there. They allow one person to slide over the rules, yet you have to follow them. That is discrimination. But the sad part is, legally, the store has the right. If they don't want their employees having piercings, they have the right to let you go. I really hope that you find a good job. I know that you will. :)

isn't it dumb?! well I still don't drive much unless my mum is with me and she said I am NOT getting a haircut unless I want to. I went into the other job I applied for today and finished my application :D I should be called in like 2 days :DDDDDD
but right not I'm getting $7.70 an hour... at this new job I have to get $7.25 an hour for the first three months :/

Like Vibrant said, it's their company. They can choose how they want their employees to look. If they said you need a haircut and to take out your piercings, you'll have to.
