I know this can be done through mods as I've seen it. Though, from what I remember from this being suggested in the past, the arguement was that VT is not a social networking site, but a help site, and for that reason this would serve no purpose.

Pretty much this. If its getting boring then maybe its already served its purpose for you, after all it is just a help site that people will eventually outgrow.

There is a "mood" add-on where you can display how you are feeling atm; the way I've seen in Govteen and Ronnie's forum, but It wouldn't serve much of a purpose here.

The only problem is that you will get horny noobz that post that they are "horny" or whatnot. Plus, this is not a social networking site.

If VT isn't a social networking site, why do we have hundreds of users here only registered to post visitor messages on people's profiles, of whom have a shirtless picture as their avatar and have accumulated a reputation of no more than 5? That argument expired a long, long time ago.

As far as the suggestion goes though, it's just more useless tat that we don't need. No one would benefit from it, and we have several threads in diaries, TWPR and the VT Arcade that can be used for this exact purpose.

vB definitely has a mod for this, and I'm on a few sites where it is used. However I can see it being misused on VT sadly, and it could end up being more of a moderation fest than a way to see what people are doing thinking from their profiles, postbits, or the central feed that appears above the shoutbox....

This is definitely not happening. We aren't going to swing in any direction to what Facebook and Myspace is. People come here to get help and help. Not give a play by play of their day. Plus it wouldn't be up-to-date anyhow because if you don't change it. VT isn't that kind of site seeing as how we have the restrictions already in place for various other things and for obvious reasons, it would just be another fly to swat.

Well, I don't know about that. PM's are very important. Mainly that Staff needs to be able to contact a member directly if need be.

What I've found to be useful in the past about VMs and PMs is the ability to contact someone one-on-one. The main reason this is valuable to a site like this is asking someone something in private or just to that person. PM-wise, a lot of my non-mod related PMs are to or from someone discussing Mental Health issues, etc. VMs can also be like that.

Social networking, no.

This is just not going to happen. There is no way to specifically "block" certain statuses and it would be more work to be done to monitor and report such users that choose to make inappropriate statuses. In no where in my original post did I mention social networking, but the fact that VT is in no way shape or form going to end up like Facebook or Myspace. There are other ways to show what your status is by making a diary or other threads to be made to show it. There is absolutely no need for it to be on your postbit profile.
