We're having a relatively small homeschool prom, and I'm on the committee that sorts out the music for it. Which songs would you suggest as some of the best songs for both slow and lively dancing?
What I've got so far:
Slow:
Wonderwall - Oasis
Lively:
Into the Night - Santana
I'm the Scatman - Scatman

Not like I like this band much anymore, but you should definitely play Prom by Mindless Self Indulgence.

I'm thinking the likes of As Blood Runs Black, Despised Icon, Whitechapel, Carnifex and Suicide Silence would be highly appropriate for this formal occassion.

Although people might hate it outside of dances, stuff like Top 40 pop music is always really fun to dance to. Or hip-hop, rap, whatever it's called. You really can't go wrong with it, it gets people out of their chairs and having fun.
I recently participated in a 24 hour dance marathon for charity. After about 16 hours, it really starts to set in how tired your body is and you feel like you can't move any more. The DJ turned the music up louder and played a bunch of random techno music that going everyone moving. It's amazing how fast, upbeat music can change the atmosphere
Anything loud, fast, upbeat, fun music is good for fast songs.
Slow? Screw slow songs in my opinion. How about we find some original ones. If I hear Wonderwall one more time at a school planned function, I will personally rip the speakers apart.

Pasalaqcua: If you didnt have anything to add other than that, you've only wasted your own time.
Deadpie and Triceratops: thanks
Autumn: do remember that this is a prom =P slow songs will be played, and it is likely that none of that pop crap will be there.
(I do mean the shit currently on the radio. Not the older stuff)

I skipped both of my school formals, stayed home both times watching the mini-series Merlin (not the BBC show). MUCH more fun.
I went to a casual one when I was much younger. It was the worst music on the planet. From that, you don't want me suggesting music that I personally would love to hear at one of those.

Yes, I realize this. Maybe our areas do proms totally differently, then, because around here, all proms have mostly fast songs for dancing. A couple of slow songs. I wasn't trying to say don't have slow songs, just not cliche ones that everyone has heard a million times. What sort of music were you looking for?

So you'll definitely be considering my ideas?

I went to my (we call it a formal) a couple years back and I cant remember what the music was like but that just backs up why suspicions of it being terrible.
For slow dancing you should play this:
