Is it just a black and white image with text added to it- or am I missing something?

Honestly. you black out way to much in your photos. You make them to dark and off centered. As for the text, it looks plastered on, use an Outer Glow, Different Color, Opacity, something to make it look more natural.

i like black and white and i love darker colors so i edit dark colors

There is a difference in attacking and stating the obvious, dear.

Anywho since this does look like a black and white gradient plus text slapped on top, which is unappealing in numerous ways, try studying and learning how to better recreate the effects.
