So I been coughing up these little white things recently, not really a problem, one was kinda big though and they smell. I looked em up and it seems to match build up on my tonsils, everyone says its not really a big deal and it doesnt seem like one but is it at least worth mentioning to my parents or doctor next time I have a check up?

You sure it's not just phlegm / sputum?

What do they look like exactly?

I'm fairly certain that's just mucus balls. Gross, but harmless.
And yes they're bitter as hell if you end up tasting one.

There are two things that come to mind when I read this.
1. Mucus.Sputum/Flem Balls
2. Strep Throat
I would actually suggest talking to your doctor (I would rather be safe than sorry)

Tonsil stones are actually a common thing. Basically, they're a build-up of food, bacteria, and epithelial cells that can get stuck around your tonsils. People who have had their tonsils removed however don't experience this, because, well, there's nowhere for these to collect. Every now and then you can cough this up or it'll just come up on its own. Nothing to worry about. But if they are too annoying or frequent, just pick up on the brushing and also gargle either mouth wash or warm water often. You can use a toothbrush to get some of it out if you're careful as well. But I'd just stick to gargling.

No, you don't need to say anything to your doctor. As long as they're still the little, soft, white ones. If you're coughing anything else up, definitely say something about it.

Generally coughing up something you normally dont cough up means you should go to a doctor
I would at the least bring it up with your parents

Its not mucus balls, strep throat, or calcium build. Its tonsil stones like Syvelocin said. Its nothing worth involving your doctor over. Tonsil stones form from particles of food lodging themselves in and around your tonsils (it's the rotting food that causes the bad smell) and they can be picked out of the tonsils but its highly unrecommended. If you feel they're a nuisance you can start gargling after eating to help wash the particles out of the tonsil cavities.

If you cough up something that you dont know what it is then you have to tell a parent.
