View Full Version : Searching time restriction

Does anyone think it would be cool to take away the search restrictions on how often we can search something in 30 seconds? Like when you go to a user profile and click the 'see threads by .....', you know how if you go back and try to click it again it tells you to wait 30 seconds before searching again? I find it annoying when I see posts from people explaining that most information is in another thread, so I go to their profile and click the threads button, but it's not there so I leave and then search again but have to wait..

i think so too but as far as i know the reason we have that restriction is to slow down sever traffic.

I'm sorry but can I just point out, it's 30 seconds, that is barely anytime at all I don't see why you can't just wait a few seconds. It's not as if it's really vitally important you see the thread right now, that very second. I think removing the time restriction is really unnecessary.

This is put in place to prevent mass spamming, so no, this is not being removed.

Now that we have a new server I'll lower it to 15 seconds. If it causes any problems I'll have to change it back.

I apologise if you think this question is stupid, but how exactly will having a time restriction (whether it 15 or 30 seconds or whatever) have an effect on the amount of spam this site gets?

It slows them down dear lol, if there were not time restriction they could navigate through and spam a lot quicker. You have to look at the big picture.

LOL, I obvously wasn't looking for the obvious answer. If people wanted to post a lot of spam, they don't need to go looking through posts. They can just go to any forum and spam in each an every topic.

That's kinda what I'm implying except it slows them down :P that's all.

The time restriction keeps the server from getting bogged down. Searching is very server intensive. Also, a bot or a user could do an absurd amount of searches in a short period of time to bring the site down intentionally.
