What would happen if you mixed trazodone and melatonin?

Sometimes the trazodone doesn't help...so I take melatonin, but not a lot. They both aren't working and I just want to know, would it be bad bad? Like, could I OD (not my intentions, that's why I'm asking)

Mixing trazodone and melatonin can cause nausea from personal experience.

I wouldn't recommend mixing them unless you have a proper dosage to mix them from your doctor.

You can but only in low dosages. They will knock you out like you got hit by a truck, though, and it will be REALLY hard waking up the next morning on time. I wouldn't really recommend it just because of how deep of a sleep you will be in.

To be totally honest, the question you need to ask yourself is if you really need to take pills to help you sleep or if there is something else you could try? I don't know much about why you're taking them, but it's obviously much much better if you can try natural techniques to try to reinstate a balanced and regular sleeping pattern. It's quite easy to become dependant on sleeping pills which can make it even harder to 1) come off of them 2) restore a natural sleeping pattern when you do. It does sound like you could be building up a dependence to the trazodone if they aren't working as well some times.

In terms of mixing the two, as far as I know, and from what I can find online, you should be fine mixing the two. As always though, you need to consult your doctor before you start mixing synthesised pharmaceuticals as I doubt any of us on here have a massive knowledge of pharmacology and the relevant kinetics.

I think you'd be better off just taking a higher dose of one, instead of mixing. I get used to my meds over time, so we just up the dose and it puts me right asleep. Otherwise, there are loads of other meds out there to try. Melatonin never worked for me. Trazodone I'll be trying next if this one doesn't work... which it is anyway :P

I was on trazadone for about a year, and during that time, my tollerence built up to 6 50mg pills each night. I could literally not take anymore, as my doctor said it would begin to work as an anti depressant (trazadone is sleep aid in low dose-anti-depressant in high dose) so she reccomended me taking some melatonin with my trazadone. I never tried it, as I just switched my sleeping pill to something considerably more powerful (zopiclone)

Shouldn't be any real interaction, but you will feel totally knocked out and maybe a little sick. Both are sedative in nature, but the pharmacological activity of trazodone seems to be independent of melatonin based activity.
