Well, if you have scars, she will see them. She will probably become suspicious, and ask you about them. But other than that, she can't read your mind. You have to be honest with her, and tell her the truth. She only wants to help you. You have to be brave, and just be honest, and tell her the whole truth. I know from experience, it's very hard to explain to someone that you cut, or self harm yourself. I really wish you luck with talking to the therapist. I hope she is able to help you. You can always come here and talk with us as well. Take care. :)

Thanks for the advice Vibrant,
Unfortunately i missed my apointment due to sleeping in.
She rang and said she was going to send me out another apointment card, but iv built myself up into going today and i think this is going to make me anxious all the way through next week. i will aventually tell her i just dont want to try and explain it of she doesnt understand. i like this girl and i want to keep her as my therapist. just scared i guess.

First sessions tend to be "assessments". She'll ask you a lot of questions, like why you're there etc.

If you live in the UK, your doctor will have written a referal letter to the therapist saying what your problems are and why you need therapy. I don't know if it's the same in any other country, but that's how it is in the UK. So if your doctor knows about your self harm and other problem you might have, they're probably in the referal letter that was sent to her.

It's normal to be scared, I was terrified on my first appointment. But I feel like I can talk to my therapist now, and once that trust has been built between you, things get better.

Good luck. :)

The reason i went to the doctor is iv been having really bad dreams almost 4 times a week and maybe upto three different dreams a night. he started me on prozac but after the second month i gave up on them. he knows there are other issues and thats why he refered me but thats it. iv had my assessment over the phone and this would of been my first proper meeting. i will get round to telling her hopefully ill have to courage to do it first time round. thanks for the reply. really helped

As Georgia said, first appointment they ask a lot of questions. They may even ask if you have wanted to harm yourself, in which case just reply honestly :)
