Ok well long story short about 2 weeks ago i was in PE and my teacher saw all up my wrist and arm and asked me to stay behind after so i did and she asked me a few questions like how long had i been self harming? what was i using? Was it clean etc and she said she wouldnt tell anyone as long as i saw the school councillor so yesterday i did and we talked about it and the councillor said that when i feel like i want to cut to snap a elastic band on my wrist ... i tried but it didnt feel the same but i want to stop cutting but i also think im addicted because ive tried to stop but i cant and i was just wondering if the elastic band thing will work if i keep trying :/ but i dont think it will work because i have no patience so if something doesnt work straight away i usually give up but i need to stop but i just dont know what to do??

First of all well done for trying to stop! It takes courage and a lot of effort :)

The elastic band thing doesn't work for everyone, it varies for each person. You could try distracting yourself with hobbies such as drawing, writing, music etc. Or you could also try other techniques such as drawing in red pen where you want to cut, rubbing ice where you want to cut, the butterfly project.
If none of those work then just google self harm distraction techniques you'll find lots.

The elastic band thing doesn't work for me... Neither does ice really, well not the same extent cutting does anyway... what helps me sometimes is getting a red watercolour, watering it down and putting it on skin, it makes it feel like blood. Only do that IF I can be bothered too :/. But one thing that always works with me is reading. I get stuck in my own little world and jsut forget about everything.

Well done for getting the courage to go talk to someone about it though, I kinda wish I had that courage... And good luck with stopping :)

Good for you for trying to give up!
The elastic band thing does work for some people just not everyone, and it didn't work for me but you should keep going, it might just take a bit of time, oh I never actually thought about that, looks like i might give it a second try :)
Gd luck

Elastic bands and ice cube work for me. Pen doesn't though. It varies from person to person.
Try lots of different distractions and hopefully you'll find one that works.
Good luck. :)

Elastic bands do work for me, if the band is the right thickness, elasticity, etc. I mean, it has to hurt for me :P When I've got the right elastic band, it works quite well for me.

Honestly everything I've done will not make the urge go away. The only thing is will power. Don't do it. If its a small urge the elastic band will work, if it hurts enough and leaves behind a nice mark. Breathing helps, and well sleeping. Sleeping while listening to optomistic music helps me to avoid it and be able to no self harm for awhile.

The elastic band doesnt really work for me. I just try and wear a lot of tight bracelets on my arms where i cut, so that if i feel like cutting, i cant actually get at my skin to cut because all the bracelets wont come off, that helps me

Yeh same. If it's to thick I can't use it. And I can usually only use red one's for some reason, but I'm using green atm cause all my red's have snapped. ¬_¬
