okay I should have posted this earlier. anyways I have to write an essay about what philosophical ideas are motivating the protests and unrest in the Middle East. I have to use the ideas of Hobbes, Montesquieu, Locke, and Rousseau.

I have to compare / contrast / analyze SPECIFIC details about the events with SPECIFIC beliefs of those four people.

Now I chose Libya and I have the following for my essay so far...

The philosophical idea utilized by the protesters is that citizens should have the right to rebel to replace a government if the social contract is violated; in other words, replace a government that does not protect their rights.

The protesters, tired of living under a dictatorship, want a democracy and demand that Gadhafi step down. Gadhafi ordered his supporters to fight back and does not seem to care about the use of violence against the protesters; this indicates that he does not believe that citizens should have the right to rebel. If he did, he would respect the protesters’ concerns and might actually step down.

how is it so far? I also need help on using other ideas. am I correct in saying that the Libyans want a democracy, a system of check and balances? I have no idea what else to write :/
