I have jacked with a condom on. If you don't like cleaning up afterwards this obviously has the advantage that cleanup is easier. I also remember it felt good feeling the hot cum gathering round the head of my penis. On the down side you have to buy or otherwise obtain them, I found the one I had was very tight so it took me a while to get used to it.

I suspect the expiry date relates to when it can be relied upon to to break though for flavoured ones it could be the date when the flavouring will no longer be safe to eat. Neither of these matter for masturbation.

As I only did this the once and felt it could have been a better fit I can't really recommend a brand.
