Methylamphetamine (commonly referred to as methamphetamine) is one of a group of stimulant drugs called amphetamines that act on the brain and nervous system. Like cocaine and amphetamines, methylamphetamine has stimulant properties but is much longer acting. The crystalline form – sometimes called ‘Ice’ – like ‘crack cocaine’ can be easily smoked and can rapidly lead to high blood levels. It’s also long-acting compared to crack so it’s an extremely powerful and addictive stimulant.

Illicit methylamphetamine is produced in tablet, powder, or crystalline forms. These products are taken orally, snorted or injected but, unlike amphetamine, methylamphetamine can also be smoked.

Meth is one of those really stupid and dangerous ones - much like cocaine or heroin. Stay away at all costs. If you must use recreational substances, stick to softer ones like marijuana but preferably for your health and legality purposes generally it's not always a great idea to use anything recreationally unless you really know what you're doing.

Props to Donkey for the good summation of the different forms and effects. I just wanted to add that there is a pharmaceutical form of methamphetamine called "Desoxyn" that is used to treat people with learning disorders. This is essentially meth made by a company so many of the bad meth qualities that result from making it in a dingy basement are eliminated.
I will second the "stay away" advice. Once you try it, you'll be hard pressed to find something as euphoric and apparently awesome - this sensation is what pulls people in. Once you try meth, the normal pace of life just isn't good enough and you begin to chase the initial high. However, that high becomes less and less attainable the more you use amphetamines, so addicts continue to take more of it and usually the negative physical effects lead to death.
