So for school my class is going on a retreat. They have a swimming pool and I want to swim, however I have scars everywhere. I have scars on my ankels both sides of my calves and thighs, arms, forearm, wrist, shoulder, I also have have them on my sides and stomach. I can wear a tankini with board shorts, but that would leave a LOT of scars showing. Makeup barely covers them. What should I do. The school doesn't know about my self harming.

They make water proof body paint. It's like make-up, only thicker. And better. But I'm sure it costs a pretty penny and I'm not sure where they would sell it. I suggest googling it!

A good concealer can usually dull down scars enough that you can only see them if you get nice and close and are looking for them. For future reference, try some Mary Kay concealer. I use it when I go to work (Short sleeves) and it stays on even when I'm washing dishes so it can work in water.

Anyways:

Go with the tankini and shorts, wear some nice tennis shoes, and when everyone else jumps in quickly strip off those shoes and JUMP! No one will be able to see your scars in the water, I know this for a fact (Last summer I would "jokingly" jump in the water wearing my clothes and strip them off underwater. No one could see my scars!). Most important of all, PLEASE act confident in yourself and appearance! If you're acting self-concious then people will be able to tell and will find themselves looking at you more closely then you wanted. Not only will you find yourself freaking out and thinking everyone can see your scars but you will end up having no fun. Act like you go swimming all the time! Smile. And have fun (: You can't let self-harm get in the way of life.

Thank you, I'll try that. If not silly bands and cover up and pray its enough to cover. I'm just anxious because teachers will be there. :(

I've managed to go swimming with fairly.. fresh cuts on my arm before now when I used to mess it up really bad, and somehow nobody saw.. but I guess that was just my arm. You'd be surprised how hard it is to tell in the water, especially cause people are usually too busy messing around.. good luck hun :hug3:

I've walked around in short sleeves around teachers before with at least 7 or so scars (quite obviously self inflicted) and none of them noticed. The thing is, unless you look directly at them they can be quite hard to see. If you wear a tankini, and wear decent make up and stay in the water for as long as possible and act confident, you should be fine. But if there are any recent cuts, they'll be hard to hide. Scars and faded cuts are suprisingly easy.

But one they've been seen, they're hard to explain away. Just act confident and stay in the water, and it'll be hard to spot.

Hmm I have the same problem, me and my boyfriend got invited by his best mate and his girlfriend to go swimming but my boyfriend had to turn it down because of my self harm scars...I feel so guilty about it and I can't seem to do anything about it. :/
