Hey, so in january we get a polio and tetnis jab. For a start im PETRIFIED of needles, and secondly i have to show my arms, which you can guess are covered in 2 years of scars and cuts... I dont want to stop cutting as i get even more depressed and im scared il try and kill myself :( Any ideas of how l can not show my forearm and still get it? And any tips on trying to get over my fear are much appreciated :)

Thanks, Dan

Well. Did you cut on the top of your forearm or the bottom (wrist) part? If both, then you can ask for it on the other arm. Or if you cut both arms, then you can simply just tell them that you dont wanna do it on your arms, and ask them if there are any other safe spots on your body for injection. Only solution i can think of.

Good luck, Paul. :)

I got my hepatitas A shot and I was scared as hell because i had to show my arm,so i just pulled my sleeve down so they couldn't see the scars. Well good lick with your shots

So i decided im going to try to stop until after the jabs and maybe forever! Hopefully theyll be at the end of january and alot of the scars will heal up but i doubt it, at least it wont look AS bad

Thanks for the advice

I gave blood with my arms the way they are and they didn't say a word. They looked, they saw them but they just you know, stuck the needle in and took my blood.

About the fear of needles, I don't really have any advice, maybe don't look? Or have someone with you that can talk to you or something just to distract you?

Sorry I can't help much.

I agree silence about the distraction thing, just talk to somebody or something like that. I hope your scars somewhat heal so it doesn't look to bad. WEll goodluck again and hang in there

well i had my polio jag this year trust me it doesnt even hurt one bit, people were crapping it and then like 'is that it' for your cuts depending were they are if its on your wrist you could just hide it with your jumper, etc.., if aroung were your getting the jag like said above ask for other arm, or you could just go, get it done and let them see your scars and if they say something you could just say that it happend when you were mucking about with pals(it happens), or you could just tell them the truth

IF you just relax before they give you the shot, like REALLY relax, dont tense up your arm or body, then you wont feel anything but for a second. IF you are tense in your arms, the shot will hurt a lot. When I got the hepatitis shots in 6th grade, the first one I was very scared and it hurt so much because my arms were very tight, then the second one didnt hurt at all, I was deep breathing and relaxed.

Dont look at your arm or the needle when it is being given to you, look at the ceiling, floor, across the room - anywhere but the shot, that way you wont know when it is coming so you wont have much time to get upset or scared and it will be over before you know it.

If it's on your forarms they're normally untanned aren't they? Use concealer.
