Norton is worthless, in my opinion.
Try AVG (http://free.avg.com/us-en/homepage)
or Malwarebytes (http://www.malwarebytes.org/)
I have both, and together, my computer is invincible! :showoff:

I use AVG after my Norton ran out, there's absolutly no difference to the average internet user apart from the interface, plus this one's free rather than like £60 per system.

NOD32 is pretty good.. oh wait, it's not supposed to be free.
In that case, AVG!

I don't like AVG, it let some viruses through
The one I use now is Avira

Or you could just run a Linux operating system. It's free, much faster than windows, and you generally don't have to worry above malware.
i vote that as the best answer. (+REP)
i would reccomend arklinux (http://www.arklinux.org) or ubuntu (http://www.ubuntu.com) if you're not very computer-skilled, or openSuSE (http://www.opensuse.org) or fedora (http://www.fedoraproject.org) if you are.

Well It's hard for me to answer this question sometimes, to define what is the best free anvitirus software for you to download, you have to study your computer performance. For example my computer has a lot of data and files and it's an old one, therfore it's slow, so the best antivirus software for me to use is a lighter one, I use ZenOK free antivirus (http://www.zenok.com/free-antivirus/) for example. If you have enough space and a fast machine. there are quite a lot of free antivirus to use. It's good to ask for some advice when it comes to learn about online protection agains viruses. Remember there are a lot of malware sites that can infect your websites with a lot of viruses and collect your data and files using spyware tools. and It's hard to get rid of this infections where they're already running in your computer. I recommend you to keep looking on the web for tutorials and reviews and what people have to say about free antivirus.
