I am seriously close to hurting myself or another person. If I go into a mental institution voluntarily in the state of Colorado, will it go on any sort of record possibly hurting my chances of getting a job etc?

I'm pretty sure that it won't, unless you tell them. You have a right to keep those sorts of things private. But if you have some sort of disability, that won't stop you from getting a job. They can't deny someone a job because of their disabilities.

I know it sounds bad right now, but don't worry about what will happen down the road. The point is you need help. If you're willing to get it voluntarily, don't worry about what will happen in the future. Just get what you need now and the rest will fall into place.
And like Vibrant said, they can't deny you a job because of a disability. If anything they'll look at you more because they'll see how good you are despite checking into a mental institution.

It will be recorded but most employers wont have access to it. But if you plan on working for the state they'd have access to it same with any federal job that does a background check like the FBI , ATF , DEA , US Marshals , CIA , Secret Service etc....

It all comes down to if someone really wants to find out if you were or weren't they'd probably be able to find out if they had the right resources

I have been to a mental institution twice. They aren't allowed to say anything about you ever being there. Most information gets "lost" as soon as you leave.
