Ipod help? o_O

My ipod has frozen. I mean, completely frozen. I can't do anything with it, I've plugged it into the computer and everything, and it won't do anything. The screen isn't light up anymore, it's gone down to that dull thing if you know what I mean? I can see it's supposed to be playing a song, but it's not playing, and it doesn't do anything if I press a button.

Any idea what I should do?

I know how to fix it, just need to know what type of iPod it is. :)

EDIT: If it has the circle-thingy in the centre, hold down on the Menu and centre buttons at the same time until the Apple logo shows up. If it's the Touch, hold the power and home button down until you see the Apple logo.

It's a first generation ipod nano. Yeah, it's old. :P

Ah okay, first part of my edit then. :) I'm used to doing it so it works on the first try but sometimes you have to do it more than once if you press one down faster than the other, etc. It should work.
