Kevin i think everyone understands the danger but it isnt enough to make them stop. Heather is strong and i know she can do it :)

My dad used to be like that. He used to make me promise to stop, and he'd check me to make sure I hadn't done it again.

But he's sort of realised that it isn't as easy as "just stopping," and he knows I'm still doing it. I probably do it more often than he thinks, but he knows I still do it.

Maybe explain to him that it's an addiction. He won't ever understand unless you sit him down and tell him. Maybe gather some information on the internet that says that people who self harm probably won't stop the minute someone finds out, or something along those lines. It worked with my dad. My therapist told him to keep out of it too, and I remember you saying you were going to talk to a social worker. Maybe you could ask them to talk to your dad?

It's very hard to stop and to follow your parents wishes. When my parents found out I don't think they cared at all. At least your dad cares to say something, prolly cuz he lives you. I know it might take more than that to make you stop bit it's a start.
