I'm seeing them live this Saturday. They released an album last year entitled 'My Father Will Guide Me up a Rope to the Sky', which was my favorite album of that year and now one of my favorite albums ever. It's very dark, grim, and complex. Been told that some people are disturbed by it. Although, it's not their darkest album. That would go to Soundtracks For The Blind

If you didn't know, Swans is known for being the most important experimental band ever. If you want some history, their first three albums are known to still be some of the heaviest and loudest music to date. I don't mean in terms of heavy metal, but in terms of 'feeling' heavy and loud. It's hard to explain really. Than they had one album that really inspired most of what you see in industrial today. Uh, they had two really creative 'art rock' albums too. The last three albums are more 'apocalyptic' and 'destructive' sounding.

If you do end up wanting to listen to Soundtracks For The Blind also, just know that it'll probably be like nothing you've ever heard. There isn't really one genre this album sticks to and can be really confusing for anyone who hasn't really listened to much experimental music.

Anyone that ever wants to claim themselves a music nerd definitely needs to listen to the first and last three Swans albums.

Edit: Swans Are Dead is one of the best live albums I've ever heard right up next to The Doors and some John Coltrane. Really amazing.

Anyhow, I'd recommend everyone in the world to listen to My Father Will Guide Me up a Rope to the Sky. Fuckin' a. I don't know how to stop listening to that album because it's so addicting.

(And yes, I copied most of this text from a previous post I made about Swans.)

From what I know Swans is known to be very loud at concerts to the point in which making some people sick. There's never any air conditioning so it's always hot in the room like sauna, which is supposed to add onto this 'Spiritual performance' that people talk about. Yes, people call Swans a spiritual experience when seeing them live. By the sound of it, I wouldn't be surprised. Some people think of it as Gira opening some type of portal to hell and playing exactly what it all sounds like. This is what I'm pretty much expecting - To have my ear sockets bleeding of blood and semen when it's all over.

I'm fucking excited about seeing them live. Probably will be the best live performance I've ever seen. Damn.

Damn, I listened to "I Crawled" when you posted it on Facebook. I was impressed, and compelled to get more of their work. Have fun at the concert :)

^ I know someone who went to that concert, the YouTube video one. They said it was one of the best they've ever been to.

I really hope they play I Crawled tomorrow. To hear that song would be so fucking intense I'd probably shit myself.

The only songs I have heard from them is their latest album. I really like them, but I didn't hear much of them.

Let me just say nobody knows Swans, scratch that. Nobody knows intensity until they see Swans live. I mean holy fuck. That was the most intense, spiritualistic experience from music I've ever had. Can't even explain how insane that was. When one of the drummers just stood up and was beating the living shit out of the drums, that was insane. Then Gira yelling, "JESUS CHRIST!" I mean, damn. The concert was just brilliant. I brought a friend with who's never been to a concert in his entire life, so he got to experience it too.

Really, the music just feels like it's sucking you into some type of vortex from hell. That's the best description of it.
