The point of this thread is just to make myself feel better, but I'd like it if anyone could give me some advice.

I've been thinking about joining the Air Force for a couple of years now. I'm in JROTC at school and it's my best class. I really like what I learn in there and I like the structure and discipline and everything. The problem is I don't know which route I want to take after high school. I don't know if I should go to college and do ROTC there and graduate as an Officer, or if I should enlust after high school and not worry about college.
I know that I should graduate and go to college, but I really don't like school. It gets me so stressed having to think about this. If I want to go to college, I need to start filling out Air Force scholarships now, but I'm still undecided. I just don't know what I should do. I know that becoming an Officer would be better, but I don't want to have to go through the extra 4 years of school. I want to start my life already and have a plan.

I guess what I'm asking is what you would do if you were in my situation. My grades are ok, but they're not outstanding. I don't want to set myself up for college just to be rejected. I don't think I could handle everything just to be denied, you know? I need to decide by like yesterday though, because if I want to go the college route I need to start filling out the applications.

It's better to become an officer. I have a friend who was in the Army, and he decided to become an officer. He said it's way better, than to just go into the service without becoming one.

I know that it's better to become one, but I don't want to have to go to college for 4 years to become one. Like I want to, but I don't. I want to go to be an officer, but I don't because I don't want to deal with the extra years that I'm not living my life..

Being honest from experience its better to take the extra years in college than to wind up doing something you really don't enjoy. Yeah, you could be out living your life but are you ever going to get this choice again? Personally I'd take it. You're only 16, you've got plenty of time to live your life. I want to become a vet, and when i first started college I was prepared to take the quickest route possible to get there. But quickest isn't always best and you can end up somewhere you really don't want to be. Just take your time and don't rush it, make the most of it 'cause when you finally do get into the real world you're going to want more than anything to go back :P
