it seems that all the admins on this site can look at anything you say, post, personal message, and everything else you can do on this site. its sort of like 1984 (the book) with ingsok and everything

They have better things to do than go around reading other peoples private messages and conversations. They are only going to do this if someone reports behaviour that is against the site rules. This is for the protection of all members.

Why? You would only care if you had something to hide ... right?

yep. if you don't like the fact that someone can see what you're doing you had better entirely stop using computers or any technology, because someone always can. in our case, it's for the safety of members and the community that all information on this site can be viewed by admins.

i still think that maybe you should loosen up a little bit maybe. I mean, i dont really think it is necessary to monitor everything that is done. i understand the safety thing and all but for example i dont think anyone is going to be hurt by asking for personal info. it should be the person that is being asked that decides whether or not to give their info to the asker.

Exactly. The people who made facebook, they can see into your account probably. Not that they'd want to read about your shit life, but they could.
Same for everything. MSN keeps conversation records. I found them on my computer one day. Every convo ever.
Nothing is 100% private so stop moaning and deal with it.

OMG I sound like a old person. T_T

They need to be able to to keep the pedo's away.

This is a help site, not a social networking site. If you want people to contact you off site, post your msn/email/etc in your contact info, and if someone wants it they can get it there.

they dont actually read every single pm sent, it would take too long. you find that they have an automated filter that would sift through them, and it would detect any thing wrong. its ur own good mate :)

Its for user protection. There is no such thing as privacy as far as computers and most technology is concerned.

You choose to be on VT, you don't choose to be in George Orwell's grim reality that is very similar to real life actually. Don't take VT for granted - it's not a right, if you don't want to be spied on, as you put it, no one is forcing you to be here.

The admins need to know everything that is going on here. PMs and everything come with that territory. Don't think their interested in your affairs if you're not breaking any rules. They don't plan to stalk you, nor do they particularly want to. If you have a problem with them being able to read your PMs and what not, the door is over there. However, if you can deal with it, abide by rules, and be a good member, you can more than feel welcome to stay :)

If this sounded harsh in any way, it was not intended to. It's just my way of being short and direct with explaining.

I do not personally look at chat logs and PM's to see who broke up with who or other things, I have better things to look into besides a member who has been here no longer than a week, and does not have PM privileges yet. Though it is our job to keep you as well as everyone who is a member on Virtual Teen safe. That's our responsibility. It's for the safety of you as well as everyone else on VT that we investigate when a case presents itself. I as well as the other administrators do not have the desire to look through people's conversations unless an issue arises. We're not your parents, we're just looking out for your safety because that's our priority.

He's got a point though, what's so different in the invasion of any possible privacy here, and in the real world where people are crazy paranoid and against all forms of privacy loss. People go ape sh*t about traffic cameras and phone taps and things like that, and those things can be used to keep people safe, so why is it ok here and not there? I think the mods need to be able to access anything *if* they need to, but maybe a standing rule that they dont access *everything* unles they need to. The government of each country owns that country and therefore has as much right to invade on our privacy as any website owners/mods, yet people see it differently.
