View Full Version : Regarding the new VT Forums "logo"
Flippy

I find it kind of unappealing and the previous one was better due to the vivid theme and flow it had. This one is a large rounded rectangle with gloss and a C4D forced into it.
Now I'm not being agressive so Origami if you come here with desires to warn me, don't, it's for a suggestion.
Make a contest, the best banner will be the new one.

The old logo was just, old...
I personally like the new logo.
If you don't like the colors then maybe try changing your theme?
I think there's still one theme with the old logo if it's what you like.

A lot of people already like his logo. Even if there was a contest, not everybody would be satisfied with the winner. Much like yourself and the new logo.

I personally like this logo. If you are dissatisfied, choose a different theme, plain and simple.

Ironically, I'm the only one who can reconcile with you. I know you have a distaste for the the new banner, as you've stated before this thread.
Now, I do see the rounded issue- I even created a flat version to "fit" better as you had said prior to this as well. It was blatantly ignored by the community.
I'll point out, again, about the C4D. I hate it. I only put it in because the original Forever Blue had a C4D, the only difference is that mine isn't as vivid. Honestly, I wasn't aiming to redo the VT logo, nor is this a "new" logo as everyone says. More than not, this was a modernization of the previous logos.
If Ant is up for a "competition" of sorts, then by all means, my logos can die. I only aimed to kick-start the graphics community here on VT, and by doing this, it was merely another step in that. So again, by all means, I encourage you to make one that the community will replace this with. I've shown Ant my banner for a personal forum, and it shits on VT's "new logo." This is a building platform for future artists to say "hey, I can change shit" considering all previous theme and banner attempts were shot down, quickly.
So again, please, do better than the second-rate banner I submitted.
What is my banner?
Custom Shape + One-Step Gloss + C4D + Text. It's the basics, not even a real banner.
Go for it. (:
As for everyone else, Flippy can't simply "change his theme." The vB logo is complete shit, and the new one is applied to all the old themes.

I think most of you say "It's better" because:
I do reckon the old one was getting... redundantly, old.
Most of you don't know much about GFX and just accept anything as long as it's better than something else in your prespective, regardless of the lack of skill something has and how crap it is. I might submit a logo sooner or later, I'm not too encouraged because I'm no staff member, or popular user, therefore my submission might be overlooked, not promoted fairly, etc. Plus I don't come here very often, I need some help now and then with something other forums can't or don't respond to properly.

Not really. Many well established members get their suggestions, etc. overlooked. Just because you're new doesn't mean anything. If you can design something better than what Josh did, I'm sure Ant would look into it. But it all goes down to what Ant likes.

Then teach them something about GFX instead of blatantly bitch-slapping them for a lack of knowledge; however, in the end GFX is an art, and art is opinion. So no amount of knowledge will appease the whole community.
Anyway, do GFX like these fit your liking any better?

I've got one problem. The one on forever blue is a bit too big. If it could be centred, made a bit smaller and blend into the background, like on B&G, i would love it. :)

I agree, it seems too big (on Forever Blue) and I also think the green text clashes and it would be better in the same blue as used in the menu bars. The ones on Black and Gold and Silver Blue blend in much more successfully in my opinion. I also find the "recover, learn and grow together" subtext cringe-worthy, but maybe that's just me. At the end of the day its just a logo though and doesnt really matter.

My only REAL issue is that the text on the logo is centered and thus the logo would look far better centered in the middle of the page.

I noticed this but couldn't put my finger on what it was that looked out of place. I agree, it should be made central.
The other problem is that it now outshines all the plainer graphics, so it looks a bit... 'ahead of its time'. If it was flat, like this:
http://screensnapr.com/v/XFIybx.png
I think it would be more in keeping.

Agree with all of them about the centred bit tbh. That should definitely get done. But other than that I like them.

Orgami, the only thing you posted worth calling "GFX" is the third link in your first post.
Those buttons, with all respect, are HORRIBLE. If you really want to use that gloss do something like this (http://i.imgur.com/9BgfX.png) and a GOOD font, border isn't necessary.
The other 2 banners are similar but without the C4D, it looks better, but it needs a lot of stuff there. Stuff that fits good and makes sense, not just some random fractal/C4D you found there.
Origami
February 13th, 2011, 12:30 PM
First post: The first is a temporary seasonal banner.
The ranks are made with a font that is affiliated with the site they're used on.
The third is just a signature, what most people consider the shit of GFX.
Again, I only used a C4D in the banner because the original Forever Blue had a C4D in it. Drop the C4D point.
Post an example of something, and instead of attacking my work when I'm the only one really on your side, make a new banner and replace the current.

You are used to sugar coated reviews. Whoever said I have no skills and I'm just doing this because I'm mad at Origami or whatever should really see my threads and posts more.
I better quit C&C about GFX in this forum, look how bad and unfairly I'm being responded to when I suggest something better for us all, I'll go back to my other forums.
Good luck with your current skills, VT.

I have to agree with Greg here. If the banner is such an issue why wasn't this suggested before Josh's were put up? The banner is fine how it is. VT needed a modernized banner and we've now got one.

I'm not conforming, i'm being realistic. The banner is fine how it is and if it wasn't then it wouldn't have been chosen. As the poster above me said the banner isn't important, its the help on the site that is. Now i suggest if you have any more issues with it you take it up with Anthony, Ronnie or Steph seeing as it was overall their choice to put it up.

It's fucking fine! We needed something new, not the fucking touch of God. You seem to be the only one complaining so why not shut the fuck up?
The admins all agreed that Josh made a good banner, versus the previous suggested new banners we've had, and they decided to go with it, go them.
This thread was 100% unnecessary, and (obvoiously) turned into a spam/hate fest. Stop trollin bro.

EDIT: The logo is fine, if the issue is so large and unsatisfactory to you then by all means make one and submit one, instead of making useless remarks that only result in an argument.

I didn't make this big! I only wanted something better and I asked nicely for a contest, you all went ballistic and attacked me like hell calling me someone with no skills and jealous. None of you had a reason to react like that, I am direct, I don't sugar coat everything and hide the issues I have with something by saying "Oh it's ok, even though I don't know how this stuff works it's good". Just because I do that doesn't mean I hate Origami nor everything he makes, it's just simple criticism.

You have made it big as you can see by the others demeanor it's definitely a disturbance. It's perfectly fine to have criticism about something, but do not address it in a place where it causes an argument. That's not acceptable.

Where can I make a thread to point out the fact we could have a better banner and make a contest about it? You're all missing out the point of this thread and instead are attacking the criticism post, that is NOT the purpose of this thread, it was to call to a fair contest where we could get a better banner for all of us.

A banner effects the site's helpful aims...how exactly? Look, we could simply conform to your demands, make some real flashy banner, and call it a day. If you feel that you want to submit an idea, please feel free. Don't expect it, however, to be fully agreed upon. I will say, however, that your criticisms are justified. But this is the decision made by the administration. It doesn't matter if you like it or not. In other words: Deal. With. It.

I do agree that the logo on Forever Blue should be centered but......
If you look at my screen shot here:
http://image.bayimg.com/gadjdaadn.jpg
You'll see that the logo /is/ told to center, but for some reason that I can't figue out, it isn't centering.
Also what I find weird, is that the logos between FB and B&G are displayed completly differently. If FB were to have the same code as B&G, not only would it fix the overlapping issue that some people are experiencing, but it would fix the centering issue as well.
See here for B&G's code:
