View Full Version : Not sure if this puts me back to day 0?

So, I have a few deep cuts that I did a few days ago that still haven't healed. They're not bleeding, but they're still open.

Anyway, I spayed a shit load of perfume on them, and it hurt like hell. But after I'd done it worse, I did it again, and again, and again.

I'm not sure whether it would put me back to day 0 or not. I didn't make a new cut or burn or whatever, but I still caused myself physical pain, so I'm guessing that's still self harm?

Just thought I'd look for a 2nd opinion.

Personally I think it would count as self harm. You are still inflicting pain on yourself. But I am no expert on what counts and what doesn't.

Georgia,
First I would like to congratulate you on being aware of your problem with hurting yourself and your resolution to stop! The dictionary of self-harm is "the intentional, direct injuring of body tissue without suicidal intent." This can include anything from cutting, drinking hazardous materials, hitting oneself, burning scratching, etc. It depends exactly on what your goal is. Is your goal to stop cutting? Or is your goal to stop self-harm? If your goal is to stop cutting, than I guess it doesn't put you back to day one. But if your goal is to stop all forms of self-harm, than what you did, because you intentionally caused your body to be in pain, it would mean that you broke your regime.
In my opinion, you should work towards stopping all harm inflicted towards yourself. For whatever your reason, we are all truly wonderful people underneath, and things will get better whether it tomorrow or in the near future. I admire you for trying to stop! Keep up the good work!

I think that it does count, because you were still intentionally causing yourself pain.
I could be wrong but thats just my opinion

Your still intentionally trying to hurt yourself, but your not cutting.
I wouldnt call it self harm.

And congrats btw!

Personally i wouldn't call it self harm..
Because you haven't inflicted a new cut/bruise or burn on yourself..
But im not sure.
I wouldn't say your back to day 0.. But idk.
Good luck hun, and keep it up..

Its hard to tell really.
Like Ally.May33 said, if your trying to stop cutting & burning, then it wouldn't.
But if your trying to stop all kinds of SH then it would.
I guess only you can definitely decide.

thanks guys :)
I think I'm going to count it as self harm. I'm hoping to stop all together, not just cutting and burning but all forms of self harm. Oh well, day 1 it is :P

I know it's a bit late cause you seem to have already decided, but whenever I do something like that, Which isn't really like cutting or burning or whatever, just things like scratching at my arms when i'm nervous, not even enough to leave a mark, I take 1 day off, so if I was 5 days free, i'd take it back to 4.
I don't think i'm making any sense :/
