Has anyone found any single player game from this generation that's really difficult? I mean good difficult, not just monsters with tons of hp or other cheap nonsense - but more the fun satisfying kind.

I haven't heard of any that people whine too much about, which leads me to believe they don't exist anymore. I googled around a little but all the lists have just the games of ps2 generation or older.

I haven't played too much on my xbox since i got it so there's a good chance there is still such a game and i just missed it.

Emmm I don't get your point... Maybe increase your game's difficulty? That always works :P

I mean the ones that really stand out as being really punishing. That are hard even on normal and near impossible on the hardest setting.like

Izuna, the Legend of the Unemployed Ninja was definitely not easy, and tended to hard-punish mistakes. Dungeon-crawler genre, NDS.

In Advance Wars - Dual Strike I found very difficult maps to win on, and the "Expert" campaign also requires lots of thinking to get through. Wargame, turn-based genre, NDS.

Europa Universalis III is definitely harsh when played with good realism mods with non-major countries. Grand-strategy/Empire game, PC.

None of those beats Victory Point Games' Barbarossa Campaign, a solo wargame where doing as well as the Germans did during WWII is already an achievement. Cardboard tabletop wargame (okok, it is not a console game, but you didn't explicitely exclude tabletop ones, so I couldn't resist, since I love it :P).

Abbadox. A space side-scroller on NES. Okay, old gen should have their piece too. That game is sooo fucking tough!

Everything in that list is veeery easy. And Devil May Cry was oustandingly easy, no matter what the level is! And DMC 3 is easier of them all.

And the first Megaman is hard. Battletoad is indeed hard.

What about Contra? I've heard of that one in a lot of other places as being very hard. In truth i haven't played most of these, I did try and get Contra to work in an emulator but it didn't(the one i found anyways..) *edit - Got a working one now ^^

But still are there no games like this for newer platforms?

Europa Universalis III - I will look for this when i can, the others i don't have a DS sadly

If you have a wii, super mario galaxy 2 is very challenging, particularly on the later levels.
