I haven't really gave the Godfather a proper chance and I love the Lord of the Rings, but the two can simply not be compared.
Since I haven't seen the Godfather though and i'm not that big a fan of gang orientated film I would rather watch LOTR.

Lord of the Rings.
I'm biased since I'm a fantasy/science fiction freak.

Here is someone who actually said the right thing.
Enter The Matrix. Well, it's cool if you are a si-fi buff.
Lord of The Ring is good. Godfather is boring as hell, well, to me it is.
Triology?
A trilogy or a tetralogy(like the movie alien and terminator) are subsequent prequels or sequels of the original film, that makes up a continuous story. Each sequel will continue where the last film left off. If there are three of the movie, we call it a "trilogy", if there are four, we call it "tetralogy".

I don't know how to compare a gangster movie with a fantasy, but my vote is for The Godfather.

Oh my, I should have figured my bland form of humor went over peoples' heads.
I was being sarcastic, I know what a trilogy is, but it's misspelled in the title.
Triology isn't a word :/
...
I should have figured that that was a terrible joke.
