Thought I'd post this up, one of my older lyrics. Intended as a study into the dangers of success but evolved into a character study... I decided to flip it between the 1st and 3rd person for added interest.
Feedback much appreciated!

Why don’t I see by Myself anymore?
Every year’s just a shadow of the year before
This is our world, and these are our rules
But the lies intermingle
We can’t tell what is true

And we live in the glare
Of the studio lights
If you turn away
You’ll be left behind
Because we live in a time
When we know we are blind
We would run, we would hide
But there’s no-one to hide behind

Why don’t I feel I've been wounded before
I’ve seen the lie of the land I've read the news of the wars
But it’s not what I don’t know that keeps me behind
It’s just my eyes have been blinded
By the studio lights

We wonder where
It passed us by
We wonder what we leave behind
We know we’re cruel
But we think we’re kind
and we still can’t find the balance

You want to forget it all
but remember the good times with clarity
The ocean’s your confessional
as you stand on the cliff-top
and whisper your secrets to the sea breeze

And we live in a time
Where we know we are blind
Because we live in the glare
Of the studio lights
And we live in a time
Written out in a line
We would run, we would hide
But there’s no-one to hide behind
