basically the one i currently have is fucked, the screen is dead
now i could send it back, but im in the mood for an upgrade and could probably get away with claiming a new one off of my mother on grounds of awesome exam results and such.
And i also want a smaller laptop that I can take to college with me so I can do work without having to use the shitty college PCs and for general awesomeness.

Now. I have found 2 that really do kindle my interest
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Dell-Inspiron-touchscreen-netbook-Premium/dp/B004KR6S2I/ref=sr_1_fkmr0_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1296956242&sr=8-1-fkmr0
The Dell,
I have read several reviews of this and so far all make it out to be fantastic
apart from its battery life. 4 hours. It might not seem alot, but if im going to be travelling with this then that time will tick away,
that is my concern since the price tag is looking pretty dam good for what it offers
Also the Pretty nice 320gb is also appealing

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Acer-1825PTZ-Touchscreen-Notebook-processor/dp/B003N19DI8/ref=pd_sim_sbs_computers_3
The Acer
my second choice
all in all looks alot better than the dell,
double the battery life, better webcam. higher RAM
but with 70 less gb, im wondering if it is worth the extra £80ish
Also another thing putting me slightly off this is the fact that my current fucked laptop is an acer aswell, and since this has gone dead, its kinda off putting

So vt. help me choose
or suggest some other laptops
max price would be about £550
i want a built in webcam. touchscreen. large memory. and fast RAM.
aswell as it not being stupidly large

im fussy

I'd get the acer. Dell laptops aren't really reliable. But that's just my opinion, some people say Dell is the best company.

Yea ive also thought that, since this screen problem is the first real problem ive ever had with acers.
But since this is internal and as far as i know it burning through itself then it is rather off putting.

and my cautiousness about buying a dell is because i havnt had one to build a solid judgement on them
more answers please teamo

I would recommend the Acer because it has a faster processor.

I would recommend the Acer because it has a faster processor.

but looking at price
would that slightly faster processor be worth the extra 80 quid, that i could spend on external harddrives and other such cool functionboosting things

I would dump all of those and look at Asus. They have cheaper models, that are faster, and have the same amount of storage.

I have on, but it has a 16 inch screen, that is amazing.

A little bigger model, that is faster. And also cheaper.

Acer may suck for you but dell and hp suck more in the terms of reliability. If you dont believe me then check this review-

I have an ACER laptop and it's rather good at what I use it for if I may say so. In my opinion they do everything that a student would need to do even gaming if you honestly wanted, probably nothing modern but I got Morrowind to work on it quite nicely.

Mine cost £380 and it's got an HD screen and is competant enough for me to stream videos off Youtube in HD and off 4od, it's also very good for work since your a student I imagine alot of Word processing and Spreadsheets being done etc. The ACER you have selected looks pretty snazzy and would whole heartedly recommend it since it is a step up from mine after all.

The computers in my school are by Dell and they're the only one's by the company that i've used and they suck! However they are probably rather outdated so I probably couldn't say.

The ACER also has a swishy screen which looks epic and the Dell is just normal, even though it's a gimmik i'd still buy the ACER.

HAHA, no.

You may have had a personal experience that was bad with Acer, that's fine. Don't condemn an entire company and their products, for your personal bad experience.

Oh, and btw;
DELL SUCKS!
See? I can do it too!

Btw what kinda laptop you want ? Ultraportable or any of laptop that offers good value? Anyway if you really dont need ultraportable then dont plz dont buy them ... And atom processors are the worst kind of processors you can find in the market in terms of power. They cant even play full HD video properly without any help of gpu ... Intel Pentium processor SU4100 is better than them... But i would wait for intel 2nd generation i-series AKA sandy bridge processor ... They are much more powerful than the older processors ... Sandy Bridge offer ~30% performance improvement versus the older Lynnfield- and Clarkdale-based processors... And they are cheaper...

You of course realize that's what the GPU is there for, right? To take the load off the CPU when decoding & displaying things such as HD video.

Yeah of course but why would i buy crappy atom @ ~$500 where i can get much more better processors at the same price ? He can easily get core i3 , even i5 (ive seen some) at the same price range... Also 4GB ram, 500GB HDD if hes lucky ...

I don't honestly see why he'd care, he's buying a netbook for college not to join the "nerd herd" no offence but do you really need to go into all the slightest specifications? All he wants as far as he's specified is something portable with decent software so he can do school work and decent internet browsing I would imagine.

I'd say none of those two.

The Dell, being a Sparta model, gets the touchscreen that is more fragile and lower coating quality. The price seems high for the hardware available.

The Acer is too highly priced for its CPU and graphics chipset. The screen/chassis connection, while looking nice, is also too much on the fragile side.

Since the main purpose of the machine would be a good "carry-around" thing, I'd suggest looking for models with less gadgetery and better build quality/battery life. Just MHO.

Well, I'd go with the Dell, I've had Dell's, Acers, Toshebias, and so far the best one I've had is my dell. The Acer dies REALLY easly.

I've had mine 2 years now and is working as well as when it was first brought out of the box.
