So i start high school on Monday and i got a call from a year 13 'buddy' saying she will meet me at the front gate, show me my classes, introduce me to teachers, and just hang out. She asked me if had questions, told me she will help me buy my locker and gave me her phone number and told me to call if i have questions or later in the year if i need help with homework or something.
What do you guys think of the buddy system, do they have it at your school.

It would be nice to have it, but don't..

No, but it seems like an awesome idea.

I guess it would be voluntary but, might get annoying. I don't know, maybe they will have it at my school in two years and I can become a buddy for a junior. Did you just start high school, Alice?

We have a mentor system for the year 7s to be paired with year 12s but to be honest the year 12s usually forget who their year 7 is so it's not too great a system. But if it actually works in your school then that's good. Good luck with your first day :)

We have two programs similar to this, kind of.

In the spring on 6th grade, we have Shadow Day. Each sixth grader is paired with a seventh grader for the day, and follow them around, just to learn what it is all about in the high school. They usually try to pair you with someone in classes that you will be taking as well, which is nice.

We also have peer mentors. In the fall of your seventh grade year, your homeroom is paired with a few mentors from older grades. The mentors host a picnic before school, where you get your lockers and we show them around the school again, taking each one on their walk of their schedule. Over the course of a couple months, we also show the kids what we have to offer. We introduce them to clubs that we have, as well as play games and show them what it is like to be an upperclass man.
