View Full Version : Constant eating...

I've decided that this year I want my goal to live healthier. There's just one problem.....I can't stop eating! I eat when I'm bored, I have too much at meal times, I snack in between. I don't know what to do.
I don't think I have a medical disorder necessarily, more a mental one I think. I just need to figure out what I can do to help myself to eat, nor normally, but properly? I guess is the word I'm looking for.
It used to be I was hungry when it came time for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. However, the last few years that hasn't been the case. The only time I've acutally felt hungry the lately is when I've skipped breakfast. Other than that I just eat when I know its time for a meal, or if I'm watching tv, or when I'm doing pretty much anything. I need help because this is not good, I want to live healthy, I want to be in good shape, I want a better future for myself. Can anyone help me get these things?

You're going to have to set limits for yourself. Portion control. It's going to be hard, but I'm sure you'll do fine. Eating isn't necessarily bad. You can eat all day every day, you just have to eat healthy. Instead of chips, eat carrot sticks. Instead of drinking soda, drink water, or milk. Remember to have a good exercise plan too.

What Jesse said.
What I usually advise is to get busy. It could be more exercise, or it could be hanging out with friends all the time, getting into a hobby, an after-school program, whatever it is. Something that will keep you completely busy so you don't even notice an urge to eat. If you're in your room busying yourself versus watching TV near the kitchen area, the odds of you going for snacks are much lower. I've unintentionally missed meals because I don't think about how hungry I am when I'm killing Diablo in the computer game, working on my sig requests, or learning a new piece of piano music. Things like that that you yourself would enjoy that would occupy you.
If you do watch TV, try to stay in an area where you won't be tempted. Mindless and bored eating seem to creep up on people. Before you know it, you've eaten way more than you've planned to. You can still eat what you love, you just can't have as much.
Also try to find a fruit or veggie you love. There are a lot out there to try. If you can find that one something you love that is healthy for you (like for me, I can't resist grapefruit) you can try replacing it with more unhealthy things. And the good thing with fruit and veggies, it's really hard to overeat even if you have a lot of it. I wouldn't recommend starches though. Those you can have too much of. Potatoes, peas, corn. But any other veggie and all fruits should be fine, and should fill you up better than unhealthy foods. If that urge to overeat comes on, grab a large apple and go do something fun :)

this is pretty normal for some people.
You just need to break this cycle.
What i suggest is that every time your hungry grab something filling and healthy. Or a large drink that will fill you up.
Also in advert breaks do something else....sign onto facebook. read a bit of a book, study, play a game on the computer <3
Just make sure your not sitting doing nothing <3

A goal to live healthier, great idea =D
Im pretty sure everyone has covered the basic answers, keep urself entertained so u dont eat so much.
Im the same, when im bored or just sittin round watching tv, i can eat till i have trouble breathing o.o But that aint too good for ya.. The way i sorted myself out, is become consious of what your eating.
You have your goal, to become healthier, so make yourself stick to it. Also, a side note, rather than only trying to stop eating all the time, you could consider taking up a hobby that increases your fitness/health or something along those lines, it will provide you with something to fill in the spare gaps where you would bum around the house munching here and there, and it also changes the way your body uses the food you constantly eat :P

I used to be this way. Try to get more involved with friends, or go out shopping, anything to get yourself away from food. And if you feel like you HAVE to eat, then have something healthy but tasty. That should help :)
